“Just what we needed”

Needed to be at Faro airpor early, only 10 mins drive away

“ideal stopover for late arrival or early departure at Faro Airport”

The Ibis Faro is a short drive from the city's international Airport and clearly signposted. The hotel's attractive exterior and spacious car park gave a good first impression. There was a slight problem when we checked in at 8pm as the smallish room we were first allocated was not really suitable for our over-70 age group, but the very helpful English speaking reception clerk took us personally to the only alternatives, two rooms on the 3rd floor that had been redecorated only that morning. We were given the choice and although there was initially a slight paint smell in the room, that dispelled fairly quickly. It was a good standard Ibis room similar to those where we've previously stayed in Scotland and France. What was different was the restaurant. We had an excellent, reasonably priced meal in this pleasant dining room overlooking the lovely swimming pool. And breakfast in the morning provided a wide choice to prepare us for the drive to central Portugal. Shops and department stores were a short distance away, as was central Faro. All in all a pleasant stay and we will happily book into the Ibis Faro on our future visits to Portugal.

Faro, Portugal: This bustling characterful little town, gateway to the region, is overlooked by most Algarve visitors. Its elegant cobbled, peaceful Old Town is a delight for strolling. The Cathedral is its highlight; climb to the top for wonderful views across Faro’s lagoon. The newer, late 19th-century part of town is a likeable jumble of shopping streets, local bars and restaurants, a regional museum and the Carmo Church with a ghoulish bone chapel.
