“Exactly What I Was Expecting”
This is exactly what a hostel should be - a combination of accommodation in a really good location. I'm a bit older and wasn't into the bar or games scene, so I got myself a private room with shared bathroom. The room was really quiet - located in a cluster of three rooms that shared a kitchen and bathroom - though the bathrooms were a bit grotty. I could choose to use WiFi or watch TV in the common room or chill all by myself in my very clean room. There is great nightlife all around, the staff is really friendly and they have a great travel section. It did make me feel a bit old being there... but hey, that's my problem not theirs!
“Nomads is the place to be!”
Fat Camel, does the name not say it all? It's young, fresh and funky. A good place for any wild traveler to go and have fun. I mean at the end of day when traveling one would hope that you spend as little time as possible at your place of sleep. Staff are ready to help out no matter what the situ might be; even if that entails mops and buckets at two in the morning cause of a flooded bathroom or for a good beer at the end of a busy day of rough waters. The free day trip offered by the hotel is the best ever. It's a great way to get introduced to the city and you learn and see so much I would say if backpacking is your line of travel in Auckland - Nomads is the place to be!
“Great location for concerts at Vector”
This hostel was okay for a single night stay. Rooms very basic, but clean. General repairs need to be completed in some rooms. We had a water stained room, didn't look at all appealing. However location is great for a night out, or if you are attending a concert at Vector Arena, approx. 10 minute walk. Handy to everything you need, including the main stops for the Airbus from the Airport.
“Poorly managed”
I booked my stay thru expedia some 4 months prior to my arrival, upon arrival I was informed that Expedia had stuffed up my booking and that my first night would be spent in a double room with my male friend despite me booking a twin room. I asked to speak to the manager whom I was told was upstairs and would be down soon and we should goto the bar a wait. After waiting 1hr I approached the receptionist again who informed me that the manager had just gone home. Subsequently we spent the night in the double room and had to shift rooms each remaining night. The showers were never cleaned the entire stay and had mold covered ceilings. The toilets constantly had wet floors and were rarely cleaned. The staff however were friendly and sympathetic of our problems.
“don't stay here”
This hostel was pretty gross... smelled weird, there was a stain on my sheets and they don't provide towels.. unless you want to pay $15 for them. Would never come back.
