“If you want to immerse yourself in the local culture”
The Coningsby hotel offers impeccable security, warm, friendly service, and the opportunity to witness life in Belize City from the inside. It is less than a five minute walk from the swing bridge and other local attractions, and a welcoming place to come home to after a day (or night) of making the most of them!
“A place of peace and quiet, great for cost!”
I enjoyed our stay. We stayed in our room only at night, but the staff was helpful. Out of the way form the hustle and bustle of the city, but only a 5 minute walk. When staying here, you are renting a room, but the staff feels like family.
“Jeanette is wonderful.”
In addition to being a very welcoming hostess, Jeanette was a personal tour guide for us. She arranged the river trip to Lamanai, the cave tubing and then personally drove us to the zoo, introduced us to the owner, drove us to both the cave tubing sites and river tour sites and showed us all around Belize City. It was great to do these things with her on a weekend when the cruise ships were not in port. We had the tour locations almost entirely to ourselves.
“Excellent value for your money”
This hotel is great value for the money. Clean, safe, and comfortable. Jeanette and her staff are very friendly and helpful. Over 100 channels of cable TV and good air conditioning in the rooms. Meals are simple, but very good: BBQ chicken/meat balls with rice/beans and salad. It is also walking distance to everything.
“Next time I am in Belize City, I will be going back to the Coningsby.”
The hotel was a 19th - early 20th-centruy home converted into a Hotel/B&B. I felt at home with staff and the owner. The food was prepaired excetionally well. I could smell coffie breweing every morning. I used the hotel as a basecamp. I was out and about early and didn't get home till late. I could count on my room being cleaned and secure. The hotel staff refered me to recreational activities visited by the locals. I had a very good time and look forward in visiting again.
“Very Good Service/Staff”
While checking for the weather in Belize for our trip of this month, August, 2009, I was hesitant to go for their weather forecast showed showers and thunderstorms for the whole week. Anyhow we proceeded with our trip and we were glad we did for the weather was perfect. We stayed in Coningsby Inn. A perfect, safe location for it was just a walking distance to where you ride the water taxi to bring you to the islands. This may not be a five-star hotel but the rooms are kept clean with a cable TV and good air-conditioning. We were spoiled with their meals for it was a good homemade cooking; practically we ate breakfast and dinner in the inn. Guests meet at the dining hall and get to talk. It was a very friendly atmosphere. Best of all, the staff were extremely helpful. The owner, Jeanette, really got out of her way to help us with our tours. Any problems you will encounter, she will help resolved. As mentioned, it may not be a five-star hotel but the service is beyond the five-star point.
“Great Staff”
The staff was wonderful. I always felt wanted and welcome. Regardless of your need, the staff and owner are eager to help. Everyone genuinely acted as if you were important and your business valued. The location is perfect as a base camp to explore Belize. The staff will provide valuable assistance to help you to utilize your time and save you money. Do not expect the Ritz. Do expect a clean room and comfortable, friendly atmosphere. Good value for the buck and a short walk from everything in Belize City. The food was prepared fresh, real home cooking, so obviously you have to wait a while as your meal cooked. I will visit again!
“Inexpensive layover spot”
Coningsby Inn is not a resort or big fancy hotel. We needed a place to spend the night before moving on with our itinerary, and this was a convenient, inexpensive place. It was during off-season, so the hotel services were very limited, as far as meals. There is a decent patio restaurant a short walk away, at "Bird Island" (which we might have renamed "Mosquito Island" due to the presence of said insects that evening).
“Good stop over!”
This was a good place for what I wanted (one night near water taxi service to Caye Caulker)! Safe, secure and clean with a good reataurant. I would use the Coningsby Inn again without second thoughts for the same reason.
“Not a bad deal”
My wife and I traveled to Belize for the fitst time last week. Although we booked 4 nights at the Coningsby Inn, we actually only stayed 2. The other nights we stayed on a beautiful island -- Caye Caulker -- we discovered. The Coningsby Inn was fine: the room was clean and all the facilities worked. The staff was friendly and helpful. We ate breakfast and one dinner at the Inn. The food was good. The Inn is in a residential area ~ 3 blocks from downtown. The downtown area is rough, certainly not confortable to be out late at night. But, the Inn was fine
