“We wanted to move in and live there!”
The hotel was wonderful, the decor plush, but not vulgar, comfortable and stylish and the staff welcoming and extremely helpful. The breakfast waitress was especially charming. It is in a good part of the city and we found that we could walk to most places, but when in a rush, taxis were relatively cheap and very efficient. Public transport is good. We would highly recommend this hotel to anyone who values style and comfort, with unobtrusive and friendly ( never over friendly) service. We sat in our suite and decided that it would make an ideal Budapest apartment - when we are very old, we might move in. (Much more fun than an old people's home!)
“Fantastic place to stay”
We have just returned from 4 days in Budapest and had a tremendous time. We have stayed in some top hotels over the years but this is something different. The pictures on the web site are an accurate reflection of reality - it really is that good! It is excellently decorated throughout and the design means that you can see the inner courtyard as you walk along the airy marble corridors. We couldn't fault the place and would highly recommend it. If we go back to Budapest we would definately stay there. If you want something different from the normal standard hotel room you really ought to give this a try. We can't vouch for the evening meals but the breakfasts were excellent. Only one thing to bear in mind - if you want English Breakfast Tea or similar you need to take your own (or buy some out there) - they only serve Earl Grey or fruit teas - something we found in many Budapest cafes and restaurants. The Castle district is a great place to stay but be wary of the resurants up there - overpriced and not always great food. We are quite quick walkers and could walk into Pest in 15 minutes using the steps by the end of the castle and the chain bridge. If you aren't into walking or don't fancy the hike back up then there is a number 16 bus that is very frequent - seemed like every minute or less at times! This will take you across into Pest. A taxi from Octagen metro back to the hotel at night cost just under 10 pounds on the meter.
“Great Location & Huge Rooms”
The hotel had a wonderful location. We were able to walk 5 minutes to the church & the bastion. The castle was about 10 minutes walking. There are several bus stations within 5 minutes to bring you down the hill if you dont want to walk. The room was huge - the bathroom alone was bigger than most bedrooms. In addition to the bedroom, there was a very large living room. The concierge was helpful and everyone was always courteous. There is a nice inside courtyard where you can relax. There are several nice restaurants within walking distance. The price was great and we would definitely stay again.
“Charming Hotel in a historic building”
Elegant hotel in a charming historic district of Budapest.
“Highly recommended”
The Hotel is situated on top of the Hill in Buda. Lux. and very comfortable indeed. Would definitely go back there again.

“great location”
wonderful hotel with suitesfabulous location in heart of buda historical area
“an absolute gem”
We stayed at the St George Residence for 4 days in May this year with our 5 year old son, and we loved every minute of it. From the moment we arrived we loved the friendly welcome we received and the hotel's gorgeous historic and sympathetically restored building. Our Bronze Suite had been upgraded to a Gold one, and was equipped with a brand new and spotlessly clean kitchen, a beautiful marble bathroom and lovely parquet floors, the rooms were extremely large and faced unto a pretty inner courtyard. On warm summer evenings, and even in the Mornings and at lunchtime, the courtyard is a lovely tranquil place to sit and eat. The hotel is located in the heart of the Buda Castle District, a haven of peace and quiet after busy days exploring the lively town of Pest. There are no Spa or Swimming Pool facilities at this hotel, but you won't miss them, as Budapest is absolutely littered with historic Spas to explore (we would recommend the Gellert baths...)
“Excellent Hotel. Luxurious, friendly and a great price”
Excellent hotel, located in the centre of Buda. Beautifully decorated - free glass of champagne on arrival and complimentary bottle of wine. Staff very helpful. Would definitely recommend.
“One of our favourite hotels”
Our second visit confirmed our opinion that the St George's Residence is one of our favourite hotels in Europe ( the other being the Wentworth Hotel, Aldeburgh, Suffolk) We were welcomed by a young receptionist, with great charm and unforced friendliness. The staff were delightful and went out of their way to make our stay as comfortable as possible. Our room was a Bronze Suite - last time it was a Silver - but even though supposedly less glamorous, it was still most attractive, spacious and comfortable. The food was good and reasonably priced - my only gripe, as a vegetarian is that there were not many vegetarian options - but this is a universal problem. We will go back again and soon. The location is wonderful and provides scope for our favourite pastime of evening walking. As I said in my last review - maybe, when we are extremely ancient, we will contemplate moving in for at least part of the year - much more fun than an old people's home. ( And cheaper!)
