“Relaxed Dubai”
Bab-Al-Shams really is a desert oasis a world away from the hubub of Dubai city. The staff were very friendly and attentive and couldn't do enough, if this is a result of taking over from Jumeriah and working to overcome some of the bad reports from a few years ago then long may it last. The rooms are spacious, decorated in traditional arabic style and a million miles away from standard hotel rooms - cosy day beds, interesting furniture, patios overlooking the desert and an amazing pool complex. A great variety of restaurants and bars, especially the roof top bar ideal for an early evening cocktail watching the sun set over the dunes. We'll definately be going back.
“Superb setting”
Bab Al Shams is a beautifully laid-out resort set in the middle of the desert, about one hour by car from the Dubai Airport. Staff are very friendly, and the service excellent. As my flight arrived at Dubai at 1.40 in the morning, the hotel organized a pick-up, which took place without any problems, despite the fact that I was delayed for over an hour by queues at the immigration barriers. (The taxi booked back to the airpotrt was also very efficient.) Apart from several well-supervised, elegant swimming pools, available activities are limited, but the place is an excellence one for just relaxing in the sun. Although I was not personally accompanied by children, the placealso appears to be very child-friendly. The only drawback is that meals, drinks, etc are expensive, and there are no nearby alternative places to eat or purchase items.
“perfect for a chiil out”
excellent service from smiley happy workers[ mainly from Sri Lanka and south india] , beauitiful hotel, outstanding food in the Indian restaurant, rooms are beautifully very arabic so slightly dark [ ladies its not great for putting on make up in the evenings] highly recommend this hotel for anyone who wants to totally chill our for a few days and be pampered.
“Desert Oasis”
We booked a night at the Bab Al Shams in early June to celebrate a long school teaching year. It was such a getaway even though it was only 45 minutes out of Dubai. It's pricey on a school teacher's budget but was worth the splurge. Dinner and entertainment are a must along with the small souk that is there. The spa was fabulous as well. Over all, we will return again for the same understated luxury at the end of our next school year.
“Very Impressed.”
Took about 40 mins to get to hotel (subject to dubai traffic) but it was like an oasis rising out of the desert. Staff were very friendly and couldn't do enough for you. Room very clean and done in arabic stlye. Highly recommend the arabic restaurant with open cooking stations. All in all great place to relax - will be going back.
“Business stay that was busy”
Bab Al Shams is a long way out of Dubai. The location was selected due to everything else being booked in a price range. It took over an hour to travel to and from Bur Dubai, so much was the travel we ended up renting a car. The hotel itself would be a great place for convention, team building or workshop. I would stay there again, but not with daily commutes to Dubai.
“Desert Oasis”
Fantastic desert location. We could sit on our terrace and watch the sun set over the desert. Food good but prices very expensive.
“Good clean up after a sandstorm”
Arriving just after a sandstorm had passed through we unfortunately didn't see the hotel quite at it's best. Although the outside areas resembled a building site and all the pools were closed the staff did a very good clean-up job. The roof-top bar opened the same night, the smaller of the two main pools and next morning and the larger pool later that day. A gentleman who we assume to be the manager approached everyone the next day to explain the situation and what was happening. He was very nice. This situation was unavoidable and one would suppose this should not come as too big as a surprise for anyone booking a hotel in the desert. Unfortunately the childrens' pool and play area was not re-opened during our three day stay meaning the two year old in our party could not take advantage of this. We ate at the Indian and buffet restaurants and would recommend both - good food and excellent service. The Breakfast was excellent and at lunch we were given the option of having one course at a reduced price. We liked the rooms and housekeeping kept them immaculate. Service was really only disappointing at the roof top bar though this only applies to some of the staff. On our last night we ended up going up to the bar to order our food ourselves. The bar in itself is a terrific place to relax in the evening and the entertainment was really enjoyable). Two of us utilised the spa and give that a thumbs up. Would visit again, hopefully with better weather next time.
