“Home Away From Home”
I studied abroad at NUI in Galway. It had become my second home. I went back to visit all my friends there and choose the Imperial Hotel for its location. It was a great hotel and we had good view of Eyre Square. The room was large and it was very convenient that breakfast was served until almost noon. Hopefully, I will be going back yearly.
“Right on Eyre Square”
The Imperial is not the grandest building in the world, but it is in one of the best locations in the world, with fine desk service and an excellent pub/restaurant attached.
“Great hotel, great location”
After reading some quite bad reports on this hotel as well as some good ones, we were quite sceptical as to what to expect. We arrived about 11pm and our first impressions of the hotel were very good. The room was very big with lovely decor and seemed very clean. As the breakfast was complimentary, we weren't really expecting much but it turned out to be just as good if not better than in hotels where we've paid for it. We definitely weren't expecting a hot breakfast. The bar in the hotel was always busy and very friendly. The location of the hotel was fantastic with lots of good bars, restaurants and shops within easy walking distance.
“Great stay in galway”
We were extremely satisfied with this hotel. The rooms were exceptionally large and quite clean. Great location right on Eyre Square. They didn't offer a full irish breakfast but still a very good buffet spread. if you want a great irish breakfast its across the way at the Skeff. Otherwise a fantastic spot.
“A gem in Galway”
When returning to Galway I'll definitely choose the Imperial again! Although kept very busy, the staff were extremely helpful. The location is perfect, right on Eyre Square where there is a tourist info booth! The only slight criticism I could make is that the rooms aren't very soundproof and my bathroom tap leaked. I ate at the hotel and the fare was authentic. Breakfast was included and it provided plenty of choice. I stayed for 6 days and the wifi worked throughout.
“Great location, 2nd time at this hotel, but pretty loud, given the central location”
Good hotel, great location but it's location being downtown is pretty loud. The rooms are a little tired, but the bathroom is large and remodeled.
“Great location, but...”
This older hotel is in a fantastic location right on Eyre Square in the center of Galway. Easy walk to nearly everything. The bar, restaurant and free entertainment were excellent. Internet by fee in the lobby only, but inexpensive Internet cafe a two minute walk away. The room was a little beat up. I had requested a non-smoking room and was informed on check-in that ALL rooms are smoking. In my room, it showed (white curtains with a few dark cobwebs-get darker curtains?). Room and furniture plain and in need of updating. But the bed was comfortable and bathroom appeared recently updated and very clean. I recommend this hotel due to its great location and price compared to others nearby. And if you're wondering where to feed the kids, this hotel has a huge SuperMac next door. Just be prepared for rooms in need of a makeover.
“Good location”
My husband and I stayed here for a night on our recent 10 day trip to Ireland in March 2011. It was located right next to lots of shops, pubs, and things to see, however, the parking garage where they have discounted parking was quite a distance away and was not helpful for people with suitcases. The breakfast in the morning was nice and made the price worth it. The room was large and we had an extra twin bed in the room beside our queen sized bed. The beds weren't that comfortable but it was ok for one night. We definitely could hear other people in other rooms but it wasn't too bad. We probably would look for someplace else next time we went but it was ok.
“Fine hotel - cleaning staff a bit overzealous”
Hotel is perfectly located for visiting the city center of Galway, nearby shopping, dining and the university. Room was clean and functional. Attracts bachelorette and Bachelor party crowds to some degree. Only complaint was that the hotel cleaning crew disposed of a bag of our travel snack food that was near the trash can of our room. Annoying.
“Not perfect but not to shabby”
I was rather amazed at the number of people who where staying in the hotel. From the outside, it doesn't seem like it could possibly hold that many people. Overall it was perfect for myself and my boyfriend. If you wanted your room clean then hang the sign on your door. If not, turn the sign around and hang it on your door. Our bed was nice and comfy. If I needed help with something I can ask the front desk and depending on who's servicing, you would get all the help you can possibly need. One manager in particular, and I forgot his name, was quite helpful and friendly at that. He diserves a raise. The free 'continental' breakfast could use a little work, but hey, it was free and anything free taste good. Also, being in the heart of everything wasn't so bad either. Right around the corner are the shops, pubs, and restaurants. Perfect location. Overall, I definately recommend this hotel if you're planning a visit to Galway.
