“Amazing location, incredible staff.”
I stay at the Celal Sultan often, as I travel through Istanbul for work. The staff are very nice, remember me and often upgrade me for free to a nicer room. They go out of their way to be helpful. The hotel is in an amazing central location, and convenient to many places. The breafast is excellent. I don't use the rooftop restaurant often, as there are so many choices around but it is good. The 24 hr roomservice is convenient too. The elevator is small, but the staff always help with bags. Its a boutique hotel, so don't expect big hallways, but its so quaint. some rooms are smaller but the deluxe rooms are huge. I love this hotel and will stay there again.
“Hard to Beat”
A beautiful small hotel in a near-perfect location within walking distance of many of the sights in the old city, and close to a station on the metro tram line, while being in a (mostly) quiet back-street. Our room was comfortable with a certain character, not large but not as small as comparable rooms can be in, say, Paris. The room’s main deficiency was an almost total lack of drawers. The hotel personnel were welcoming, helpful and friendly, the desk staff and bar-restaurant staff speaking good English. Specially warm welcome in the rooftop bar and restaurant, a ‘must’ for a sundown drink at the day’s end while you watch the sunset fade on Hagia Sophia. Good local streets with many restaurants and it’s easy enough to walk further afield towards many shops and the Grand Bazaar, and not all that far down to the harbour and ferries. Traffic is usually appalling, do not even consider using buses or taxis, instead walk or use the excellent and easy metro tram. If you book on a tour, expect to spend long periods in the bus, even if the tour starts just down the street from the hotel!
“Perfect example of this type of hotel”
Celal Sultan is perfect for a reasonable cost stay in the Sultanahmet district. It is well situated, clean, comfortable with a reasonable breakfast and a stunning roof terrace. The room was adequate in size, nicely turned out, with a super bathroom and great bed. The staff were friendly and helpful. Reccomended
“We Hope to Some Day Stay There Again”
We chose this hotel for its great location. It's in the middle of the old city, two blocks from Hagia Sophia and the blue mosque. We walked to the topkapi palace and the grand bazaar. It is in the midst of little shops and sidewalk cafes. It's a wonderful two-hundred year old building comprised of 3 structures. It is not swank and modern but is most comfortable with antique rugs and unique furniture. Rooms seemed to be different sizes and ours was somewhat small but functional. The shower did not leak over the floor and the bathroom had great shelving for toiletries. Buffet breakfast was included and was excellent. The staff were most helpful, from loaning us an umbrella to finding us a good travel agent to help set up the rest of our Turkey travels. We thought there was a shuttle from the airport but there was not so you should have the hotel address to give the taxi driver! The hotel staff will arrange a car if you email them ahead of time.
“Sooo good.”
I have stayed in Istanbul before, and was really looking forward to it again. This hotel could not have been nearer to all the main tourist sites. Literally around the corner from the Blue Mosque and Agia Sophia. For anyone who gets lost, it would be impossible! The staff could not have been more helpful, with suggestions of what to visit, providing a map and a card with their details should you get lost! They provided transfer from the airport, in an air conditioned mini people carrier. Sleek,on timeand not too expensive. My friends and I could not believe how quiet the hotel and its location was. It was down a side road, but with the hustle and bustle of a busy city we expented some noise. Not a bit. The rooms were clean, airy and soundproofed. Breakfast was a buffet, and again there was something for everyone. If you are thinking of visiting Istanbul, please go to this hotel. You will not be disappointed. Oh, and my friend left her jewellery by mistake in the hotel. When we realised this in our hotel in Kemer, one telephone call was made and they listed all that they had found, and arranged for it to be delivered to the airport on our return journey yesterday. Nothing was missing. (we paid for the courier, but that was expected). When he arrived, he had a copy of our passports to ensure he was giving the jewellery to the correct person, produced receipts for us to sign. Very professional, but extremely frendly place to stay.
“Pretty Impressive Hotel.”
The hotel is ideally located, safe, within walking distance to the major attractions, restaurants and the tram line, which connects you to the Istanbul Airport for a mere 1.75 Turkish Lire. The tram line can also take you to other areas of Istanbul, including the ports, Takshim square, and other tourist areas. The daily breakfast that the hotel provides is a definite highlight of the trip.
“Great location!”
Super location, excellent breakfast, pleasant and helpful staff, lovely décor, surprisingly peaceful and quiet, considering the location. The bathroom cleanliness wasn't up to scratch. The hotel is not cheap, so I expected a better standard in this respect!
“Caught between a rock and a hard place”
This hotel has a great location within easy reach, and view, of the top locations. The staff were helpful and the place clean. However, we were told that we had been upgraded to a superior room which was quite small, had no storage for clothes apart from 4 coathangers, a "view" of a derelict building only about 5 m from the window and a constant hum from some machine on the roof below. The worst aspect though, was the rock-hard bed which made sleeping difficult
“switched after one night”
the regular room was extremely small, the AC was hardly working, no safe box, the view was the dingy roof and wall of another building. when I first arrived, the guy at the counter tried to move me to a different hotel for one night, and then when I declined, he became cold and unfriendly. I asked someone else if they had a better room, and they said not tonight, but I should check back tomorrow to see if a larger and more expensive room was available. But instead I decided to find another hotel. The following morning, I went to checkout and the initial cold guy said he had to "talk to me". He told me that because they had cleared someone out to switch me into a more expensive room, they would have to charge me for a 2nd night too. I complained and said Expedia would talk to them for me. He said it didn't matter, I would have to pay 2 nights. I said whatever and walked out. And thanks to Expedia, I was able to get my money back for the other nights and only had to pay one. For a slightly higher price, I was able to get a bigger, cleaner, beautiful room at the Ferman Hotel.
