Occupying six acres of island oceanfront property, this family-friendly Hawaii hotel is a five-minute drive from the Wailua River and a 15-minute drive from the town of Lihue. Shops, restaurants, and cinemas are located next door at the Coconut Marketplace.
In addition to two outdoor splash pools and sundecks, guests at Kauai Sands Hotel enjoy a small fitness room and a half-mile beachfront walk. Though Waipouli Beach is considered unsafe for all but strong swimmers and surfers, it is a lovely walking beach, with perfect sunrise views and whale-watching opportunities during the humpback winter migration. The airy lobby includes a sundries shop. Free self-parking is available.
Rooms
The Kauai Sands Hotel is composed of four two-story, white-stucco buildings without elevators. Furnished lanais feature mountain, garden, or pool views; deluxe pool-view rooms also have partial-ocean views.
Rooms have colorful, island-style decor and are cooled by air conditioning and ceiling fans. All include compact refrigerators and dial-up Internet access (surcharge).

In addition to two outdoor pools and sundecks, Kauai Sands Hotel provides a small fitness room with a treadmill, stationary bike, and skiing machine. Though the adjacent Waipouli Beach is considered unsafe for all but strong swimmers and surfers, it is a lovely walking or jogging beach.
Wailua Municipal Golf Course is a 10-minute drive south of the hotel. The Wailua River, a five-minute drive south, is the longest navigable river in Hawaii, and boat and kayak trips up the river are popular. Kayak and scooter/moped rentals are available nearby, as are sailing trips, ecotours and birdwatching walks. Kids can enjoy the nearby playground.

“Kauai Sands Hotel - a good place to stay”
Excellent place to stay. The hotel is basic but clean and comfortable, the staff are wonderful. The location is an ideal base to explore the island. If you go on holiday to spend all your time in a hotel complex with all mod cons and services the Kauai Sands won't be for you. We don't travel 2/3rds of the way around the world to spend our time sitting in a hotel room and this hotel provides all we need. This was our third visit and hopefully will not be the last.
“Perfect for the budget minded”
This is the second time we have stayed and we enjoyed it a lot. Its an older place but was nice and comfortable. Its certainly not fancy but we like that about it. Very casual and layed back. Super location on the beach with easy access to the rest of the island. Perfect for the budget minded. We will be back
“Enjoyable stay”
The staff were very friendly and helpful - even when i checked out early to stay at families home on other side of island. No coffee set up in room but starbucks very close by. The beach is definately not a swimming beach but is enjoyable to sit by during the day and evening and/or walk. Water is just too rough for swimming. It was a quiet place and very easy to get to from the airport.!! I love Kauii.
“Basic but well maintained.”
Although this is an older facility, it is well maintained and comfortable. For the money, it served my purposes very well. Easy access to beach and local restaurants, but the on-site restaurant was closed. Desk personnel very helpful and friendly.
“we would stay there again”
Hotel is worn and need of some routine maintance. It is very clean and the grounds are manicured. All employees are very courteous and helpful. Resturant has very good food and is reasonably priced. We reccomend this hotel and will stay there again
“A Great Value”
This hotel has a great location and is walking distance to the Coconut Marketplace which offers a variety of shops and other activities. There is a very nice beach that is about a 100 yards from the furthest building. The staff is very friendly and helpful. If want to a more quiet stay choose the superior rooms.

This was my favorite hotel in Kauai. I would like to recommend it to my friends if it remains its price level.
“Great place for the money”
My husband and i have stayed at Kauai Sands for the second time now and will continue to stay with them any time we return to kauai. The hotel is very simple, you get what you pay for. We stay in room 202 and the view is awesome! Our room was always clean and the staff was very friendly and accomodating. Great location right next to the coconut marketplace, I highly reccomend to anybody staying on the island to rent a car, there are so many great beaches to explore! Anini beach was my favorite. All in all if you're looking for the four star resort experience, dont stay here. However if you're like us and all you require is a clean room to sleep and shower, then theres no better place for the money than Kauai Sands.
“great location!”
good value for the price...outdated but comfortable...best thing about this hotel is the location. it is right on the beach, although not good for swimming because it is too rough. But still nice to be oceanfront. The location is great. We had activities on both sides of the island and this was right in the middle, so we didn't have to drive too far to either side. The hotel was probably great in its day, but now outdated. As long as you expect that it is ok. The rooms were clean and the air conditioner worked well. I think all rooms have balconies, and ours had an ocean view which was nice. Not all have ocean view, some view the pool or parking lot. I would definitely recommened to friends. We didn't spend much time in the room, mainly just for sleeping after busy days sightseeing and activities. Definitely a great price for a hotel on Kauai!!!!
“Kapaa's Secret”
The staff was friendly, the rooms were clean, grounds were beautiful, hotel is a bit older, but beds were comfortable, our stay was enjoyable. Luxurious, no, comfort and relaxing, we give it a 10,although the restaurant hours were limited, the food and service was great, located right on the beach and next to a shopping mall, what more can you ask for? We think it is the best kept secret in all Kauai, we plan to visit there again and would definitely reccommend it.
