“Great hotel in a great location”
Didnt eat in the hotel as town centre is only 5 mins walk away (NOT 15mins as some reviewers have put as there is a short cut (ask reception!), but everything else was spot on!
“Chosen for wedding reception”
Fine rooms in the main hotel. They also have holidays homes (maybe about 12) that are fully furnished and equipped 3 bedroom homes--wonderful for families or those who want to spend a longer time and bring in food to cook and eat. Impressed with the all in one washer/dryer. These units are new within a year or two. They did a great job with the wedding setup and menu. Very, very good.
“great hotel!!!!”
Although I was only there for a short stay, everything was perfect. The staff goes out of their way to make you feel at home. The rooms were bright and very comfortable. I will always use this hotel in my future trips to Kenmare.
“Fitness facility was best feature of hotel”
We were not expecting a 5 star hotel, and while the rooms and common areas were nice, the difference was in the service. We waited a couple of hours when we requested enough towels for the three of us in a triple room. There was no bellman to assist with getting our bags up the stairs (no lift in our section of hotel). We're fairly low maintenance, but with only one person attending the front desk for such a large hotel, it was difficult to get through via phone. There were common areas on each floor with computers and printers (nominal fee). We walked into town, perhaps a ten minute walk, for dinner and the following morning. The town was lovely, with an outdoor market twice per week. The fitness facility at the hotel was the nicest we had seen in Ireland. A large swimming pool with sauna and jacuzzi, exercise room, all nicely organized with an attendant at the desk. Bring a swim cap if you plan to swim in a pool in Ireland!
“Not very impressed”
The hotel is a little out of Kenmare downtown area, so if you want to go out to eat you will have to drive. The front desk staff misdirected us on some things so double check the info you get. The room was clean, but the hotel had a little bit run down feeling.
“If you don't need a pool, don't come here”
It is a very basic hotel. WiFi can only be used in the main lobby area. There is no elevator, at least in the part of hotel where we were so we had to carry our bags two floors up
“Not overly impressed”
The hotel was not the most comfortable, and the bed mattress was of very poor quality. THe towels in the bathroom were very small and not what i could consider as of a sufficient size. The towels also had a very strange odour of chlorine from them. In addition an unrequested wedding brochure was placed in the room in our absence on our second day in the hotel. When this was pointed out to the staff at check out this was greeted wiht a very dismissive attitude from the staff and then we were subsequently ignored in favour of the telephone. I would not recommend this hotel to any expedia users and certainly it is not of a 3 star quality.
“Paper thin walls”
Although this hotel said it was a prestige hotel, the walls were paper thin and the doors designed so that you almost had to slam them to close. We got little to no sleep as all we heard most of the night (Saturday) was people going up and down the corridors, talking, and the slamming of doors. Also, the bed wasn't very comfortable and the pillows were thin. The "icing on the cake" was that the shower didn't work. Initially a trickle of water appeared, but then the water flow stopped altogether and I had to rinse the shampoo out of my hair in the sink. Although the staff was great and the food very good, I would definitely not recommend staying in this hotel.
