“Nice break”
This resort is very nice if you are looking for a quiet place that has plenty of activities to do. It is ideal for families or those looking to get away from busy towns or nightlife. It is rather expensive and you are kind of isolated at the resort. The highlight for me was some of the nature activities, especially the orangutans.
“Ocean Wing Heaven”
We stayed in the Ocean Wing which provides superb rooms with all comforts you could want, modern clean decor. Staying in the Ocean Wing gives you access to a separate set of pools & loungers and a separate breakfast restaurant. Excellent staff who were friendly & helpful and made us feel very welcome. Great restaurants at the resort serving good variety of well cooked meals.
“great hotel fantastic people”
we had 4 days in KL then 9 nights in a superior sea view room. The welcome and treatment we received was excellent, my partner was bitten by sandflies so maybe a bit more information about the problem they can cause should be made available. However the doctor in the hotel was fantastic and it did not spoil our holiday cant wait to revisit the rasa ria as soon as possible
“Perfect end to a trip”
Great few days on the beach after a tour of Singapore and the jungle etc in Sandakan/Sakau. We stayed for a week which was long enough. Very isolated though and quite expensive for drinks and food for where it is. Orangutan center was very good. Similar to Sepilok. All round excellent.
“Exceptional service”
This hotel is exceptional. The service, room, facilities, food, ambience, spa, beach, entertainment & location all exceeded my expectations. The 64-acre nature reserve and orangutan rehabilitation centre on site is particularly impressive.
“Nice although out of the way.”
Lovely hotel if a little out of town. The hotel provides free shuttle buses into KK (about 45 mins one way). Probably better suited to families; there were plenty of children by the pool. We stayed here for the orangutan santuary.
“fabulous”
Loved the hotel. Great food, excellent service. A real bonus having the Orang Utang rehabilitation centre next door,
“Relaxation to the max”
Staying at the Shangri La Rasa Ria was a very relaxing experience especially after climbing Mt Kinabalu at the beginning of the week! The small Orangutan reserve at the hotel is a great why to get up close to them. Others who had been to larger reserves rated the Rasa Ria reserve higher. The Indian restaurant, the "Naan" is superb, some of the best indian food that I have ever eaten. Sand Flys are a bit annoying and you will leave with a few bites for sure... Expect to have a lengthy bill to pay at the end of your trip as there are no other shops/restaurants within walking distance. It takes 40 mins to get into KK on the hotel bus...I would of preferred to be closer, but then I am not sure that you would get the seclusion that Rasa Ria has to offer. The golf course is impossible - I lost 15 balls in the water which seems to be just about everywhere. A freind of ours stayed in the Ocean View - they had an outdoor living area on the balcony complete with spa, and a seperate pool and breakfast area. I would look into upgrading next time. Highly recommended...but bring the credit card and mozzie spray!!
“Kota Kinabalu”
Good hotel, friendly staff.
“The staff are truly wonderful”
Everyone at the hotel is very friendly and make you feel welcome. Everyone greets you and you feel as if you are in Shangri-la!!! Food is excellent and I would go back like a shot! We had a fantastic time, there are lots of places to eat and drink and of course loads to do other than just chill out! There are organised things to do, but it is discreet and there is no pressure.
