“WOW, pure Indulgence”
The Hotel more than exceeded our expectations from the Buffet Breakfast to the outdoor facilities. The adult pool was the best I have seen anywhere. The location is perfect with a short Taxi ride into the city for shopping. KK doesn't have the big shopping centres like KL but still managed to pick up some bargains at the SURIA shopping centre. I will definitely come back to this hotel with the family soon as I think its best suited for Families with lots of activities for kids. Oh, and the highlight was the hospitality shown by the staff at this hotel. I would say this was the best holiday I have had for years and would not hesitate to recommend to anyone.
“Great Hotel but....”
Maybe we should have researched deeper but we were told we could do the mountain trips, jungle and visit the Sandakan Urangutans and turtles, this is only true if well planned in advance as it is either a flight £600 PP, a 9 hour coach or a trek which would have been great had we been told and planned into holiday. Hotel is good, rooms begining to look a bit dated but beautifully clean. Service in bars and restuarants very slow. As expected at this quality of hotel, drinks and food can be expensive and you can easily rack quite a bill up quickly People extremely polite and couteous
“Very Nice Hotel”
Hotel was beautiful, especially the lobby. It is not far from the centre so you can easily visit there for dinner. Slightly more resort like than we were expecting and difficult to get a seat by the pool but the surroundings were nice.
“Everything you could hope for”
I only stayed for one night following a tour around Sabah but it was just what I needed before returning home. The hotel staff are always smiling and saying hello (but not annoyingly), they are very professional and want your stay to be 5 star. The pool and private beach both have a view out to islands and neither feels busy. The food and drinks are quite expensive (same as UK prices) but that is what you would expect at a resort like this. Sunset at the beach bar is stunning although the bar gets very busy. The resort looks well set up for kids with activities daily. It was a very mixed clientel from many countries and ages groups as it caters for all. Make sure you venture in to KK for some local food in a local restaurant... or visit the food stalls at the night BBQ on the waterfront... an experience and very tasty food.
“Best hotel in Kotakinabalu”
I Think best hotel for vocation with childern.
“A little luxury in Kota Kinabalu”
We stayed here for a long romantic weekend and could not have asked for a better experience! the hotel is stunning and the staff very friendly and will help you with anything. Had a lovely dinner at the excellent Italian restaurant on site (Crab linguine to die for) as well as many cocktails by the pool-side restaurant. Although a bit far from town, there are shuttles available and taxis are not expensive. A visit to the food market here is a must - eat with the locals! The hotel beach is clean though small, but I would certainly recommend going to one of the small islands by ferry's accessible from the nearby jetty, if you are after a bigger beach experience. Would certainly go back for another long weekend.
“Relaxing”
Great hotel, staff very helpful. Only one drawback, could do with more entertainment options in the evenings, for adults and kids.
“Shangri La Indeed”
Overall we had a great stay. The pool and beach were not too crowded, well maintained. The grounds of the hotel was kept beautifully. The resort is like a giant garden for you to roam about. Staff very friendly and helpful. Resident "3 legged" clown brought many smiles to our kids and others. If we have to be picky, breakfest buffet very crowded all the time, esp. the inside dinning room. There were too many special rate programs which confused us and also staffers during Check-In and Check-Out. The sunset at the hotel bar is unbeatable. Definitely recommend this hotel for visits to Sabah.
“Fantastic stay”
We stayed at the Shangri La Tanjung Aru recently - arrived Easter Monday and left a week later. Would go back in a flash as we loved our stay there. We had two rooms, interconnecting, which was ample space for myself, my husband, 3 kids and my mum. The beds were huge and even with a cot and a fold out bed in one room there was still heaps of room. The staff who cleaned our rooms were great, constantly arranging or childrens toys on the bed which they loved - they always wanted to go back to the room to see how the toys were placed each day! Grounds were lovely, clean and very green. Pool area was great - the kids section had water slides and other things to keep them amused as well as a shallow pool - very kid friendly. The deeper/adults side was fantastic too and looked like something out of a postcard. The beach didn't disappoint either, wasn't too rough with a nice beach area. The main breakfast and dinner restaurant were buffet style and had lots of choices for fussy eaters. We were full each morning after a very hearty breakfast. Location is around 15 mins by taxi out of the main part of KK. Taxis are readily available and pretty cheap (around $5AU). Wasnt that impressed with the shopping in KK, the markets were full of stuff I wouldnt really buy but they were worth the experience - especially the Sunday morning markets. Staff were fantastic and very friendly and helpful. Kids club was good too. All in all a fantastic holiday.
“Highly recommended!”
We LOVED our stay at this hotel! Our room was beautiful and clean, the staff were friendly and the food fantastic. Its especially good if you want to be near to the city (as opposed to the sister resort, Rasa Ria, which is in the middle of nowhere). Only thing I wish they'd had was a pool table for rainy afternoons :)
