“Good deal”
friendly staff, lot of amenities included. Food is overpriced.
“Best in Town”
Very good hotel. It was easy to access, since it was located on the train station. This part of town is very busy, specially on weekends; so expected lots of people outside. A hospital is close a couple of blocks away in case you fall ill. Multiple western style restaurants in case you get home sick are available on site. The staff was friendly and spoke adequate English. The rooms were very clean and comfortable.
“Great value in Kyoto”
My spouse and I just spent 4 days in Kyoto (July 2006). We are delighted with Hotel Granvia: it is centrally located, very comfortable, and the staff is very courteous. Most importantly, it is a great value. We recommend it without hesitation.
“Posh and modern”
Palatial rooms by Japanese standards. Excellent choice for business (if you are not paying the tab) or for a treat to have extremely comfortable accommodations if you do not want to get too far away from Western standards of luxury. Location in Kyoto station gives prime access to subways, cabs, and intercities. Complimentary high speed internet access is a nice plus.
“Excellent service, quality, location and value!”
We were nervous about staying at a "train station" hotel, but this was a world class hotel with a spacious room and all the amenities. The concierge helped us plan the perfect day and we were able to see all the sights we wanted in a short visit from this location. The lobby lounge cafe was outstanding! We have stayed at other hotels and did not get this much service and value for the same price.
“Just perfect”
This is by far the best hotel I have stayed in Japan. The rooms are incredibly spacious, clean, modern and wired. The service offered by the hotel staff is immpeccable. It's located directly above Kyoto Station making it very convenient. In addition, there is a department store (ISETAN) no more than 5 minutes walk from the hotel that also has a groceries floor (offering a wide selection of foods).
“4 Star Acomodations & Service”
Very modern Japense...wonderful shopping and restaurants in same complex...easy access to historic areas of Kyoto
“Good location but expensive”
This hotel is so convenient to all the Kyoto sights because of its subway and bus connections. Was so nice to arrive by train and just go up the escalator. Many restaurants are are nearby as well as convenient shopping. The hotel itself is beautiful and very well maintained. The rooms are quiet and ours had a nice view. It is somewhat expensive but well worth it.
“Absolutely lovely hotel. Impeccable service.”
The hotel is situated in the train station (a sight not to be missed)and thus affords unbeatable access to transportation: airport, sightseeing, trips to Kobe, Nara, bullet train to Tokyo. The service is absolutely flawless: luxuriously left our luggage at the hotel while on overnight trip, got explicit directions with maps for every outing, exchanged dollars for yen sans commission! In-room coffee is average (there is a charge), but Starbucks is across the street.
“Excellent base in Kyoto”
My family and I spent 3 nights at the Hotel Granvia. We were 5 adults and 3 young children. We flew into Kansai (Osaka) and took a bus to Kyoto. The hotel was an excellent base as we used our Japan Rail passes extensively from here. We had mentioned through expedia that we were travelling with infants. Our rooms were fitted out with cots, baby 'burberry' linen and a sanitised baby nappy bin for no extra cost. Our standard rooms were large and the twin beds were 'king singles' with soft pillows!!! The only down side was that for our room rate we had to look over the extensive train tracks before you could view the city (the other side of the hotel had a much nicer view but for more $$$ I'm sure.) Considering how little we were in our room, it was not too great a bother. The curtains were block out so sleep-ins were fantastic, great for the tired traveller. We didn't have an adaptor but reception organised one for us. There was no charge so long as we returned it upon checking out. The Japan Rail information station is under the hotel which is very convenient for travellers. Below the station (still inside the magnificent structure that houses the hotel and train station) there is a fantastic food supermarket. There is a level of desserts and then a level for savoury. Most food is prepared and ready to eat although some do require heating. Great salads, rices, sushi, kebabs, fruit, bread.... definately worth a visit!
