“Very quiet and comfortable”
I liked the large grounds with plenty of shady spots to sit. The room was large with nice ensuite. Air conditioning would have been good for hot nights. There was no courtesy bus and some people might find the walk uphill from the prom rather daunting. So a good place for the fit and healthy.
“Overall extremely happy”
Overall extremely happy with all aspects of the hotel, other than thought our room was "tired" and needed a face lift. In this day & age, I was surprised there was no internet cafe.
“A reasonable hotel not as bad as some reviews say”
almost cancelled this hotel after reading the reviews. I and a retired engineer aged 80+ arrived on monday 14/09/09. The climb to the hotel was nothing like a heart attack inducing slope. Once the layout understood it was possible to miss last part using paths through grounds and the lift. Hotel could do with refurbishment. Rooms were comfortable and clean. Food was more trattoria than restaurant but the pasta was well prepared, al dente as it should be and sauces good. some complained about only one set of cutlery but this is common in continental eating places. I also do it with guests when I have a 4/5 course meal as I dont have enough cutlery for one set for each course! Staff helpful and friendly but one had to ask rather than information being volunteered. Location a bit far from town but the walk could be via the lakefront most of the way. No 27 bus stop close by on the main road handy for trips. Restaurant seats about 300 folk in each of 2 sittings and evening meal choice can be made the day before or in the morning. We were B&B but ate in the hotel during stay. Salad buffet, 1st course two pasta choices or soup, main course meat/fish/vegetarian, dessert with two or three choices. Grounds nice pools nice but a bit cold at the time of our visit. Some of the shabbiness of the hotel was caused by guests eg scoring of inside of lift doors.
“Amazing pool area, average hotel”
I read a lot of reviews of this hotel before visiting and was a bit wary as some were quite scathing. Overall, I found the Marco Polo to be quie satisfactory for a 3 star hotel. The pool areas were both fantastic and the pizzeria bar was great with a nice menu. Our room, unfortunately, was situated directly above the bar which meant we had music playing into our room until late every night and we had to have the windows open as the hotel has no air-conditioning! This would be my main complaint. Also, the hotel is situated up a steep hill which requires a general level of fitness to climb and the sign-posting for the hotel is quite poor. Once you're up the hill though the location is great, beautiful views and a decent complex. The hotel met with my expectations and in some ways was nicer than I'd thought, after reading the terrible reviews. I would recommend staying here to other visitors but be realistic about what you're hoping for.
“BAD EXPERIENCE”
I WOULD NOT RECOMMEND THIS HOTEL AT ALL. RECEPTION STAFF NOT EASY TO GET HOLD OF. YOU END UP WAITING THERE A LONG TIME TO BE SEEN TO. AS WE WENT IN OCTOBER THE NIGHTS WRE COLD DID NOT HAVE YOUR OWN HEATING SYSTEM SO WERE COLD UNTIL THE HOTEL PUT THE HEATING ON. AT BREAKFAST FOOD WAS NOT COVERED SO HAD FLYS SITTING ON THE FOOD NOT PLEASENT AT ALL. ENDED UP EATING FOOD THAT WAS PACKAGED THEREFORE ON FLY'S ON THERE. THE ENTERANCE FOR THE HOTEL WAS NOT LIT UP SO COULD GET LOST AS THE HOTEL IS ABOUT 5-8 MIN INCLINE FROM THE MAIN ROAD. THE HOTEL ITSELF IS ON A HILL SO BEST FOR CAR DRIVERS. WOULD GO TO GRADA AGAIN BUT NOT THAT HOTEL. WOULD NOT EVEN GIVE IT A ONE STAR IN MY EXPERIENCE
“Hotel in a timewarp”
The Marco Polo is stuck in a timewarp. It has not been updated or decorated since it was built (which must be 40 years or more ago). The views from the bar balcony are superb, but everything else about the hotel is out of date and generally poor. It would just not survive in another less impressive location, it has little or no facilities, and if you were expecting a view of the lake from your bedroom - forget it. The staff also seem generally morose, which is not surprising working in that place, and judging by comments from guests having dinner there, we were glad to be only staying bed and breakfast.

Garda, Italy: A lively, pretty lakeside resort, Garda features Renaissance ipalazzo/i and villas and a small medieval fishermans quarter, attractively colonised by restaurants and shops. The small headland of Punta di San Vigilio is a romantic secluded ensemble comprising a dock, the 16th-century Villa Guarienti (by Sanmicheli), a garden, church and beach. The latter, Baia delle Sirene, is one of the nicest places on the whole lake for swimming.
