“Clean, old fashioned motel”
The Patio Inn is strategically located on Ventura Blvd. with close access to freeways. It is close to numerous retaurants. The motel is an old fashioned (think '40s and '50s) motor hotel where you park the car right at the door to your room. The building has nice plants, is painted white with a red tile roof. Furnishings in the room are basic and sort of cheapo. The TV is small and doesn't get too many channels. The room is very clean and everything smelled fresh including the bedding. The towels are small and thin -- if you are staying for any length of time, bring your own. Also bring a bar of soap to avoid carrying the small bar from the sink to the shower. Don't expect breakfast. I think there was a coffee pot and some sort of danish available in the office when it was open, but it was usually locked. I didn't care since Dupars, a great breakfast place, is a few blocks west. The room has both a refrigerator and a microwave. I enjoyed staying at El Patio because I grew up nearby and it reminded me of the L.A. I once knew. If you want a clean, basic motel in a great location pack that towel and stay at El Patio.
“Fair”
Great location to whom are heading to Universal Studio. But forget about the breakfast: coffee, orange juice and donats. You better cross the street and have some rel food in Seven Eleven.
“Near Universal but old”
The hotel was older and in need of some remodeling, adobe wall's, beam sealings and very limited parking. Not a bad little hotel, but the real down side is the price for what you get. If you want to be this close to Universal and dont mind old style, this isnt a bad choice.
“You Get What You Pay For”
Well, this is quite a little dive. We arrived at 2:00 in the morning, and the gentleman who checked us in seemed terribly annoyed at our arrival. He said maybe two words (our room number) before closing the security slot that led to the manager's office. The actual room was painted white brick, with a noisy air conditioning/heating unit, and an uncomfortable bed with a ripped comforter. Oddly enough, it was freezing...which may have been nice in the summer, but as it was winter, the noisy air conditioner/heater was of little comfort. There's wireless internet access, but it cost extra (which I think the front desk worker just pocketed). There was supposed to be a breakfast, but we didn't bother asking the unfriendly folks at the front desk. We did manage to secure an extra blanket and pillow...but the man at the front desk almost treated it like a secret arrangement he was allowing us, rather than an normal request. However, the rooms were kept clean...the location was terrific...and the price was affordable. Just don't think that you'll be getting a room to rival one of the big chains. This is a cheap hotel...make no mistake...
“A good budget hotel.”
Looking through the reviews after we booked the motel we were not looking forward to it as it was all bad. When we arrived, easily via public transport ,we were shown to a nice clean room. The room has everything you could possibly need for a couple of nights. I feel this motel has had a rough ride. It was the cheapest room we could find in a safe LA area and the room was clean and nice. If you are looking for a budget, clean room in a good location then this is the motel for you.
“Unhappy”
Last minute booking, drapes in the room would not close and TV remote did not work. You can find something better for THIS price. No central Heating - wall unit
“not worth it at all”
small room when we showed up our room door was open, and there was someones hair in the bed it was gross. i do not recommend this place at all...
“Extremely low quality everything.”
Very old with all the crud old brings, dirty carpets, bring slippers, old pillows and mattresses etc. No frills ANYWHERE. Advertised loosely with breakfast which is bad coffee with only powder creamer, and a pastry that comes packaged by the dozen at grocery stores. That's it, no fruit, no juice, nothing else. You must get this breakfast in a little room next to the check-in office, large enough for 3 people to stand, and you must juggle this back to your room on a napkin because they don't even have paper plates. The only up side was their location if it is where you want to be.
“WORST HOTEL EVER”
This was about the worst service at a hotel that I have ever experienced. They claimed that due to "fire code" I was not allowed to have guests. I also realized that I vastly overpaid for the quality of this place. I tried to cancel my stay or at least get a little money back for early checkout because I was so unsatisfied. I wasn't surprised to find out they wouldn't give me any money back. Learned my lesson, hopefully you wont have to.
