“If ever in L.A. stay at this hotel”
First time in L.A. Stayed two nights. This hotel is within walking distance to the financial district, the subway station, the freeway, and much more. I would recommend this hotel to others and would stay at this hotel in the future. An older hotel that has charm. The surrounding neighborhood at night can be a shock to someone not astute to urban living. A good price, great location; overall a well run little hotel.
“Best place to spend night near downtown”
This is the good hotel if you need some place to sleep near the downtown of LA. Yes it's old. But it's clean and quiet. Just 5 minutes walk from Metro station. I'm totaly satisfied! It gives you more than you can expect for paid money.
“Convenient, affordable, everything working, clean”
My first contact with the hotel was encouraging: the parking attendant had my reservation and I was let in without a hitch. An old hotel, but renovated and generally in good condition. Staff was friendly but not overbearingly so, the room was clean, somewhat spartan, but spacious. Internet worked without any hassle. Neighborhood is nothing special, but good and affordable Thai restaurant one block away. Well located for most LA business locations.
“I was impressed!!!!”
I really enjoyed my stay in Historic Mayfair Hotel. The staffs were very nice. I arrived at the hotel around 8:30am and the time of check in was 3:00pm, but one of the staff kindly gave me a room to stay and later switch to my own choice. The hotel was located in a great location with metro line and buses near by, also near to famous attractions and restaurants. I will highly recommend anyone who is looking for affordable place to stay to book this hotel right away.
“Exceeded expectations”
From some of the previous reviews, and reviews I had read on other sites, I didn't have very high hopes for this hotel. All I can say is thay either they have done some major remodelling recently, or some folks who have stayed there have impossibly high standards. I arrived at about 10pm at night. The lobby was large and airy, and spotlessly clean. the room was not huge but it was well-maintained. And clean. There was a microwave and a huge fridge, and the bed was very comfortable. The sheets were spotless. Loads of closet space. As for the area, my friend and I never experienced any problems, not even when walking back from the 7th St metro to the hotel in the pouring rain at about 8pm. I was far more freaked by the area around the Greyhound depot.
“Clean,Safe Room, Downtown LA”
This is the second stay at this hotel. Minutes from the INS and Mexican Consulate. The room was clean the staff helpful and nice. Decor not up to date, but who cares, cheap, clean and safe are good enough for me.
“Good value for downtown”
The hotel lobby is beautiful, elegant. The room was attractive and housekeeping service was superb every day. Bathroom was so small the shower made me feel unsafe--fighting with the curtain because the space to stand was so narrow. A l-o-n-g walk to the convention center but doable if you dress for it. Neighborhood deteriorates significantly 20 feet west of this building!
“Please don't go!!!”
Mattresses were dented and, on the toilet we found a drop of blood on the cover, pillows were so hard that we could not sleep, they had the heater on for the whole hotel and they could not turn off ours, when we tried to turn on the air conditioning to refresh our room it didn't work, just the heater side worked. We were sofocating!!! You have to pay for parking.
“Great stay and satisfaction”
Stayed 3 nights recently. Hotel is "older", but as clean as any name brand chain. Condition not pristine, but very passible. Staff very helpful, nice. Lobby nice with marble/rugs. Little worn, but not shabby. Rooms clean, again everything may not be perfect, but very usable. Local area is hispanic, but not trashed. Good mexican restaurant 2 blocks away, 20 minute walk to the Convention center. Would stay there again without hesitation if I have the need. Rates less than 1/2 of the name brands.
“Great location for Staples Centre & Metro to Hollywood and Universal”
Late check ins in LA. 3pm! Otherwise the hotel was great. We stayed there as we needed to be close to the Staples Centre. We found it also close to the Metro train station which takes you direct to Hollywood and Universal Studios.
