“A truly "Charming" Experience”
A lovely, quiet hotel, comfortable room and good restaurants. Staff were very helpful and efficient. Location meant that we needed to use local taxis or free hotel courtesy bus to get into Funchal. Recommend hop on/hop off tour bus to get around town - 12 Euros for 2 day ticket. Mountain roads are a bit hairy so only hire a car if you are a confident driver. Cable car ride to Monte and botanic gardens is spectacular. Madeira is a beautiful island for a quiet and relaxing break.
“Second Visit”
An absolute gem. Can recommend without hesitation. Our second visit to Madeira and this hotel - we knew exactly what we wanted and the hotel, its facilities and excellent staff did not disappoint. Totally relaxing and peaceful with lovely grounds and marvellous views. Two good and contrasting restaurants at the hotel with others in the local village nearby.
“Superb location”
Only problem was finding it - quite tricky in the dark! Otherwise delighted with the location: outstanding sea views, away from the bustle of Funchal and an ideal base for exploring the island. Lovely 'small and friendly' feel which we much prefer to the larger hotels. .....And champagne at breakfast!
“Well worth a visit”
Very pleasant hotel only disadvantage distance from Funchal but this was offset by the views from the room and the area generally
“Great setting”
If you don't want to stay in Funchal, this is a great choice. It's a lovely, local village and the hotel blends in really well with lovely gardens and a nice old main house. The breakfast buffet is superb and the restaurants very impressive too.

“Perfect location for relaxation”
Great views and helpful hotel staff. The hotel is outside Funchal, on top of a hill with beautiful views to the sea for all rooms: when you open your balcony door in the mornings you hear just birds! It's the perfect location if you want to relax. The hotel has 2 x day bus service to Funchal but apart from this if you want to be more independent you would need to hire a car really. Some tour operators will collect you anyway from the hotel for excursions around the island anyway, so that's handy.
“Exceeded expectations”
Pluses: Super setting, great seaviews,lovely garden with all-day dawn chorus from the scores of birds. The staff were all very friendly and attentive. Minuses (but only litte ones !)although the main restaurant was beautifully decorated and the food good and well presented we felt it was very expensive and preferred the Garden restaurant for value and atmosphere. Also the beds were a bit hard !
“Hotel Quinta do Estreito”
The hotel and its staff were excellent and the dining superb. There is a menu, which is changed daily, and dining is in either the old manor house (excellent bar) or in the larger restaurant below the hotel. A beautiful place altogether.
“wonderful 25th anniversary stay”
I would definately stay at this hotal again. The staff was more than helpful and the setting beautiful. Felt pampered.
