“Very nice place and fantastic beach :o)”
Very good hotel in quet town not far away from Funchal.
“We loved it”
We stayed in February 2009, when Madeira was a bit chilly, but this didn't spoil it for us. The hotel made up for the weather! Probably the best 3-star hotel we've ever stayed in. There's no airport shuttle but it's not far and only cost about 20-25 Euros by taxi. The hotel is very long, in about 7 blocks with the street on one side and the lovely gardens on the other, so its quicker to walk to breakfast down the street. Looks a bit forbidding when you first arrive and are sent off up the street to your room but all is forgiven when you get there. Room was clean, spacious and comfortable, with a fantastic powerful shower and nice view over the gardens. Breakfast buffet was good it not terribly varied or imaginative. We were bed and breakfast so don't know about other meals, although we did find a lovely restaurant ("Garajau") just across the road from Block 6. Evening entertainment was relaxed and one or two of the singers were really very good indeed. Didn't try the (unheated) outside pool. The heated one inside is not particularly large but very warm. Tried to check in for return flights on the free computer at reception but it isn't connected to a printer. This should be changed. Reception suggested going to an internet cafe in nearby Canico, either on foot or by bus, but I couldn't find one there. There are plenty of quick, cheap buses to Funchal, roughly one an hour.
“good for price”
we stayed at dom pedro 2 adults one 3 year old this is our second time ,for the price you can`t get a better hotel we had just room only because there are lovely eating places outside the hotel or in the centre we also hired a car which for us was a must as we went round the island. the hotel is not 5 star so if youe fancy a 5 star but think you can get the same service your mistaken. but for a place to stay for room only you cant beat it.the swimming pools are not heated but the time we went the weather was hot so nice and refreasing for us .they have 3 pools in total and tennis courts plus free internet at reception only. once again i stress for the price it`s great but do remember it is a 3 star.
“Ideal Chill-Out - did not want to leave !”
Modern hotel, well presented throughout and good service. Indoor & outdoor pools. Rooms with balconies & Atlantic views. Very limited shopping but a few restaurants closeby. Quiet. Funchal only a 15 min local bus ride away -lots to see on a walk around the capital.
“Dom Pedro Garajau Hotel”
The hotel provides basic, but good value accomodation. Good entertainment is laid on each night, hence there is no need to leave the hotel in the evening, which is just as well because within walking distance there is nothing in particular to see or to go.
“Nice place with good amenities and friendly staff”
Nice hotel, recently redecorated (Spring 2007?). Views from the upper rooms are quite nice, looking across the backs of lower houses nearby and out to sea. Generally a good state of repair and the staff were very friendly (we found all Madeirans amazingly helpful and friendly!). Respectable buffet breakfast; breads, cheeses, yoghurt as well as a small and changing selection of cooked items (bacon and tomatoes one day, sausages and mushrooms the next, always with some kind of egg). It's a surprisingly big place - surprising because you don't realise how big it is at first. None of the buildings are more than four floors high and since the site slopes away from the street they appear to be lower. The water in the area is apparently drinkable but the hotel quite rightly points out that it's very chlorinated and so they recommend bottled water for drinking. There's some sort of entertainment each night after dinner (we never ate dinner there so can't comment). There's a live singer singing a selection of hits from the last thirty plus years. It sounded fine if you like that kind of thing and we could hear it clearly in our room which was not too far away. But we didn't mind (usually I hate that kind of thing but it was quite well done!) and they finished by around 10:30. You could always ask for a room further away if it disturbed you.
“Would certainly go back again!”
Very friendly and helpful staff, clean large room with a great views over the well maintained gardens and out to sea from the balcony. Nice pools, both indoor and outdoor (a little chilly outside, but it was out of season!). Breakfast was lovely with plenty of choice. The hotel is nicely located just outside Funchal, so good if you like to get away from the city hustle and bustle, but close enough to jump on the frequent local and cheap buses for a day or evening out in the town. Garajau has lots of nice little shops and restaurants, which in our opinion served much better food than the restaurants in Funchal.
“would use again”
if only on bed and breakfast think of paying each day for all inclusive worth it as you get lunch ,dinner , and all drinks at a fair price
“Pleasant hotel”
Hotel very clean and friendly, helpful staff. Food very good. In a nice setting, only problem buses not very frequent to Funchal.
“Good 3-star hotel”
Fairly basic hotel but clean, nice grounds and pools, helpful staff, good food, quiet location (except for the dogs), on a bus route to Funchal, good value for money.
