“Far better than I expected - a real bargain in a great location”

This hotel couldn't be in a better location, and is really in the centre of Funchal. It is just behind the Cathedral, and a few meters from the main street. The hotel is in a quiet back road, which has restricted traffic, so there is very little noise. The Cathedral does not sound its' bells before 8:00am and does not sound them at night so they are really not a problem. We booked a small studio appartment for a week in September 2010. The room was modern, very clean, it had a kitchenette with 2 ring cooker, fridge, pots, pans, crockery and cuttlery, all of which was very clean and very useable! The fridge was great for keeping your drinks cold. The staff on the reception desk were very pleasant and were happy to provide us with some very useful opinions about local tourist matters. They were a credit to this hotel. The only criticism I have is that the restaurant and bar had been closed for "economic reasons". That said the restaurant was open for breakfast, although it was not included in the price. Don't let this put you off though, there are a lot of cafes and restaurants within a short walking distance of the hotel, so the lack of a restaurant/bar is really not a big deal. I very much enjoyed my stay on the Island, and am sure I will return soon, when I do, I will definately return to this hotel.

“Location you can afford and love it”

Very clean and comfortable. Locatad at the heart of the city with 5 minutes walking to the bus stop. Plent y of restaurants with different food choice within 5 minutes of walk. 200 m from the ocean and ferry connecting with another island Porto Santo. You will never get such comfort for the money you paid.

“Good value for your money”

We stay in the hotel for about a week in February. Originally we got different rooms that we ordered, but they fix it within a day, very helpful staff [our luggage was lost by airlines and they take care of calling airport, etc.]. Location is great, in the very center, near by cathedral and port, but it's relatively quiet at the same time [depends on hotel guests:)].

Great location,a bit hard to find. This a good place for travelers who are on the go and enjoying all of madeira,good bus connections nearby.Nice roof top patio .This is not for people who spend a lot of time at there hotel. A bica is a good near by restaurant fresh fish and low cost.

Excellent location in the heart of Funchal. The hotel needs a little TLC but was very comfortable a definite 3 *.

“a disappointing stay”

Sorry to say that despite the many good reviews of this hotel, we would have to give it the thumbs down. The description given was "separate sitting area" which was the kitchen chairs in the kitchen/diner. To watch the tv you had to go to the bedroom. A 2 seater sofa would make all the difference. There were chips in the walls of the room and the skirting covering veneer was coming away. One of the bedhead lighting switches fell off exposing dangerous wiring. The airconditioning unit started to drip one night and despite reporting this, nothing was ever done about it. Unfurtunately we could not make a final report on our departure as no-one was on reception and the hotel did not ask for our opinion on our stay.
