“Good all round.”
Great location.Walking distance to Santa Anna area via Sol. Hotel right outside Gran Via metro station and a simple journey to and from the airport.Friendly team of ladies in charge, one of whom spoke excellent English. The room had a double bed, which was fine for the first night but with a friend joining me on the second day,we needed a twin room.Having explained the situation we returned in the afternoon to find a 2nd fully made up bed in the original room.Job done. The room was fine, with a balcony.Bathroom small but not a problem. Had great weather in April and neither the aircon or plug in heater were needed. Though in town for football it gave us the chance to visit the two micro breweries...Naturbier,which is on the square with outside seating and Magister, which is on a side street with no seats outside but arguably better beer.Another good find was Museo de Jamon, which is a stand-up eatery on a road leading from Sol to Santa Anna.A ham or cheese roll with a beer or other drink can be had for only one Euro....a great bargain.More substantial fare is available. There is an amazing collection of ham legs for sale strung around the establishment.. Real Madrid's Bernabeu stadium is well worth a tour.Watching a big game there was something else, even though we (Tottenham) lost 4-0 !
“hotel orly june 2011”
The building's stairwells are being remodeled currently, so access is a little difficult. Much of the hotel has been completely re-done and looks great. All work should be done in a month or so. Lots of hookers on the street just outside the hotel, but no harassment from them.
“Good hostel at the center of Madrid”
This hotel is located at the center of Madrid, just outside of the Gran Via metro station. I took the metro from the airport and it was very easy to arrive to the hotel. It is located at the side of the Gran Via, one of the main avenues of Madrid. It is very easy to go and come, walking or by the metro. Rooms are small and bathroom is really small, but everything is clean. My plan was to spend all day visiting Madrid, so I used it just to sleep, and it was very convenient for me. Outside of the hotel you can find plenty of restaurants and shops. Hotel service was fine. I recommend it for budget travelers who need a clean room. And location is really, really good.
“good option”
the owners, a man and woman, were very nice but spoke very, very little english. the hotel is in a PERFECT location for a few days in madrid and is in a building with an elevator as well as stairs. the reception area is small, this definitely a good place just to park your things and sleep and it was great for that. you can keep the room key (which is nice, not all hotels in madrid let you), the room was very clean, AC and fan unit in the room, new bathroom, and it has free wifi. i stayed there alone (single girl) and never felt in danger or uncomfortable. my room did not face the street but im guessing that its pretty loud at night, which most places are in madrid!
“Would stay again”
Nothing fancy but does the job. Great location. On gran via but since it's on the the 7th floor it was quiet.
“Cheap but not too cheerful!”
Located right off Gran Via but a little hard to find as it is in a building with several other hotels, each on different floors. The area around the hotel was a little run down, but not too bad. The room was small but adequate, though very warm. We had to open the window sometimes though we stayed there in January. The staff were a bit dour and not very welcoming, possibly due to the fact they no one spoke any English at all, not even the basics. All in all, economical and not too bad for a short stay
