“Great location and helpful staff”
I was a woman traveling alone. Felt safe at hotel and in surrounding area. The hotel was clean and quite with a large sitting room and a bottle of wine at the end of the first day. The front desk very helpful, even called the airline to confirm my flight when the airline computers were down.
“Lovely hotel in great location”
Lovely hotel room, great location and free welcome glass of champagne! We were very satisfied.
“Perfect base”
The Derby Villa Real is an excellent hotel and the perfect base for seeing Madrid, particularly if it is culture you're looking for. The three main galleries are very close. We found one or two excellent restaurants within 200 yards and the whole area around was very smart. Our room was a split level one with not the best view in the world, but the room and service were excellent. Only two complaints. Quite a bit of noise in the night-not quite sure why and breakfast was quite pricey. There were plenty of cafes close by though. We thoroughly enjoyed ourselves and look forward to a return trip
“Excellent, excellent, excellent!”
The staff was very friendly (not always the case in Spain) and helpful. The food, the service, the location - great. Stayed at another 5 star hotel close by 2 weeks before and the difference was big between the two. Highly recommend it.
“Great Hotel Choice in Madrid”
As you would expect, this 5 star hotel was an excellent choice and a value for what we paid. The surrounding area was excellent with all the museums, the park and ease of using the Metro. I would suggest that for breakfast walk down the street and there is a Starbucks and a VIPS (diner/cafe). The breakfast buffet at the hotel was limited and very expensive and you could save 20 euros by just walking a few minutes down the street. The hotel staff was ok - we had asked for information about the bullet train and the front desk was going to charge us extra to set everything up. What they didn't tell us was the train station was an 8 minute walk from the hotel and we were able to set up our own train reservations. Little things like this go a long way when you are traveling internationally.
“Great location, excellent service”
Perfectly located for a visit to the Prado and other tourist sights in Madrid. The staff were friendly and helpful and there are many restaurants nearby. The bar at the hotel is a great place for a glass of wine at the end of a long day.
“A++++ Highly Recommended!”
This hotel exceeded our expectations - it was located within a 5-7 minute walk to the Prado museum and very close to a lot of shops and restaurants including Starbucks, Vips, etc. It was also within walking distance to a McDonald's restaurant which is a must when traveling with small kids! It is 2 short blocks away from the bus stops including the stop for Hop On/Hop Off tour buses. In addition to a great location, it was very clean and our sheets were crisp and in pristine condition every day! The bathroom was also spotless and very shiny! Hardwood floors in the room add to the clean feeling (no icky carpet). Hotel staff all spoke fluent english and very helpful and free computer use just off the lobby. A++++++++++!!
“An excellent choice!”
The Hotel Villa Real is an understated but high quality hotel in an excellent location, right near all the museums (El Prado, etc.) and Retiro Park. It's a 10-minute walk to the Plaza Santa Ana, which is a great place to have outdoor tapas and drinks. The hotel itself is crisp and clean, with a contemporary feel. Rooms have wireless, which is not cheap, but everything works and feels well maintained. The service was very attentive. The hotel is on a quiet little square (at least my balcony overlooked the square), though it's right in the cultural heart of the city. I would highly recommend this hotel to the business or leisure traveller!
“Madrid's best kept secret!”
This hotel is strategically located near the Prado Museum and not a far walk from Plaza Mayor. The rooms were spacious and clean and the staff very attentive. I was pleasantly surprised not having stayed there before. I will definitely go back.
“Great value for the money”
This hotel is in an excellent location (near the Prado and Thyssen museums). The hotel staff were very helpful and friendly. The room itself was very spacious and nicely laid out - especially for the price. My only negative was that the beds were a bit hard. But I'd definitely go back.
