“Marrakech amazing - the hotel not much good”

The city was an amazing experience and delivered all the exotic excitment and cultral intrest that has been written about Marrakech. The hotel was not what we expected. It was basic and the decore was shaby. We had expected certain things like an iron and tea making in the room. These did not exist and when we asked for an iron we were told about an ironing service but not given any idea that it was at a cost or how much it would cost. We did not feel the staff were very helpful. Twice I wanted to change Travellers Cheques but there was no money availible. The room, bathroom and bedding was all very clean but there were no carpets in the coridor so you could be disturbed by other guest coming in late. The location was OK for the main square; a 30 minute walk or 10 minutes on the bus for 3.5dh. Very cheap and as good a bus service as you would find in London. Bartering advice and practice is a good idea. When you have decided what you are going to buy, you will be given an outragous price. eg 800dh (aprox. £80), for three pairs of slipers worth aprox. £10 each. Act very offended and offer 200dh. The vendor will equaly offended then barter to the value you are both happy with. In the example some were between 300 or 400dh. Marrakech is one of the best places I have every been and I will go back again some time. I will just be a bit more choosey over the hotel.
