“Hidden Tuscany”

We have just returned to La Miniera having stayed last year. We enjoyed it so much we couldn't wait for our second visit. And it did not disappoint on either occasion. It's so relaxing & peaceful. It is situated up in the hills of Tuscany above a small mining village, the approach roads can be rather steep, but persevere, for it is well worth it. The rooms are very comfortable, we had an appartment which gave us that much more space. And after a very restful nights sleep, you throw open the shutters and the view is truly wonderful, what a start to the day. The staff are so helpful, but you need to speak a bit of Italian, they could not be more pleasant and welcoming. It's an ideal centre for touring, Pisa, Florence, Siena, Volterra and San Gimignano are all close or not far away. If you like touring, try the back roads and the views are stunning and quite varied. I know that we will return there, and probably many more times.

“Frienidly, comfortable and well located”

This was a lovely place to stay, in the middle of the beautiful Tuscan countryside yet plenty of places to visit within a 1-2 hour drive - including the old copper mine (across the road) and the hill town of Volterra nearby, where we spent several hours, as well as Pisa, Lucca, Siena, San Gimignano. The food was excellent in the downstairs trattoria as well as the one next door. Comfortable and friendly. I would go back again.

“The best hotel we stayed in during our tour of Italy!”

This hotel is truly out in the sticks in Tuscany! It's run by a lovely lady with a couple of helpers and if you're looking for rural Italy with great hospitality and service then this is the one. The rooms are more basic than a main stream hotel but do have everything you need. It's nice to leave the TV and telephone behind. We had the best night's sleep there since the rooms were so dark, the beds comfortable and outside it was silent. There is a restaurant which they run called 'The Miners Tavern' which offers typical Tuscan cuisine, i.e basic food, mainly meat orientated. And all at a high standard at very reasonable prices. It has a great location for visiting Pisa, Florence, Sienna, Volterra etc and the owner will give you advice on where to go, park and get the train from. There is also the local mine to visit. It would help to speak some Italian here as the staff know little English, but they are very patient with you and pleased you're trying! And the menu in the restaurant is in English too.

“A wonderful experience!”

This hotel is a little hidden gem, situated on top of a hill overlooking the breath-taking Tuscan landscape around Volterra. It offers peace and relaxation, as well as being a great base to explore the major towns & attractions of the area - Florence, Pisa, Siena (all in the vicinity of 1 hour drive). Our host and owner of the hotel, Stefania made our stay very pleasant indeed, though it helps if you have a little knowledge of some basic Italian. She's an excellent chef too, and we found ourselves dining in her rustic basement restaurant exclusively in the evening. The rooms are spacious and clean, and if you book an apartment you have access to your own kitchen with all necessary appliances. All in all we had a truely wonderful stay there and would go back any time!

Perfect for us. Truly beautiful location in the Tuscan hills with views of Volterra. This hotel was immaculately maintained, comfortable with delicious food and good hospitality. A memorable Tuscan experience. We shall return. va bene

“Charming Retreat in Tuscany”

"La Miniera" used to house the admin offices of a 19th century copper mine, the remains of which are open to view. It's a very peaceful place atop a hill with wonderful views across the Tuscan countryside. Lots of hairpin bends and the nearby Montecatina Val di Cecina is well worth visiting. The owner Stefania seems to do everything and is very warm and welcoming, even though she speaks hardly any English she communicates well with a smile and even carried my case up the 35 stairs to my room! All very clean and the food in the restaurant in the cellar is very good. Since my last visit they have built a swimming pool in the garden which was most welcome.

Pleasant setting and good location to drive to other Tuscan cities. Homely atmosphere and excellent food served in the adjoining trattoria.

“A litt;e gem”

Lovely hotel deep in the country side. Service was spot on and it was worth every penny. Quite as well. It looked to be popular as a local retreat which alway make a hotel that little bit special. Ideally located for exploring the smaller towns in the area some of which were in my opinion far nicer that Pisa and Florence. Just be aware that it is an hour drive to the cities, although we didn't find this a problem as there are plenty of places to stop off along the way.

“Beware”

The "Hotel di Campagna" does not exist, there are merely some rooms above the La Miniera restaurant. The shower leaks and there is no lift. Saff speak no English. The nearby village is nice but has only 2 restaurants, one which is good but if shut you have to use the other which is dire, unfriendly and xenophobic.
