“Pleasantly surprised!”
Wrought iron balconies in the atrium, lots of plants, little trickling water fountains, and good old Southern hospitality awaited us as we rolled in close to midnight, having booked the hotel in advance through Expedia. The rooms were VERY spacious! We stayed in a King suite, which consisted of a king sized bed in the sleeping area, as well as a sofa bed in the sitting area. The sofa bed, unfortunately, was not a real comfortable way to sleep and I wished I had stuck with our original booking of two double beds, but I'll know that for next time. Usually the sofa beds are already made as you pull them out, but mine was not and I had to call the front desk for sheets (keep in mind it's very late). The gentleman here went to the housekeeping room himself and brought sheets and blankets within minutes, and was extremely polite. Breakfast is very simple - cereal, coffee, juice, some danish pastries... enough to get your body kickstarted in the morning. Will definately stay there again when I'm in Montgomery next year! Safe, clean, spacious, wonderful staff, and the wi-fi works! Highly recommended.
“Roomy and Comfortable”
This hotel was beautiful on the inside, with an inside courtyard opening up to the three levels - lots of greenery. It was a little worn looking and feeling but the staff was extremely nice, both at night when we checked in and the next morning when we left. The continental breakfast was your typical cereal and sweet rolls but the area was very clean and I didn't mind eating in there. The room had two beds with a sitting area, couch etc. I teach online, and I needed the internet. It was HORRIBLE, spotty, in and out that night, but the next morning I got up early to use it and it was very fast. My dad couldn't walk far, so we asked for a room, non smoking and double, and we were in the top back corner, but it still wasn't a bad walk. LOTS of parking in the back, not much in the front. We would stay again - the price was fantastic, and to be honest, for what I paid, I was scared it would be really bad - I was pleasantly surprised. I wish I had gotten the name of the night clerk when we checked in - she was EXTREMELY nice and friendly and did her best to make us comfortable, even when I called to complain about the internet, she was very nice and helpful. I would stay again - don't expect the Hilton or something like that, but you definitely get more than what you pay for :-)
“Pretty Nice”
The staff was very courteous. There was a mix up with my reservation and they took care of everything. Check in/Check out was simple. Since it was a self service hotel I didn't expect much. The rooms are spacious and very nice. If I happen to stay there again though I will make sure to not be on the first floor in th first room again. When there is something going on in the lobby you will be sure to here it.
“No more "bargains"!”
The old adage "You get what you pay for" applies in this case. The only thing I liked about the hotel was that the room was SPACIOUS. What I didn't care for? The elevator smelled smoky and felt very dirty (there were cigarette butts and other trash in the elevator door tracks). The room I had had this indescribable odor. The sink was clean, but not as it should have been. The faucet to the sink needed replacing. The cabinets were dirty (I know this because I had to wipe down all the surfaces with disinfectant wipes). The toilet was definitely not clean (it wasn't awful dirty, but definitely not clean). The TV had dust on it. The bed had something on the sheets that did not look inviting at all (I'll let one's imagination run here). I actually went to Walmart and purchased one of those sleeping cocoons to sleep in on top of the bed before I came to my senses and checked out. The straw that broke the camel's back for me was the internet service. There was supposed to be free internet service. I tried to sign on a few times to their network to no avail. I called the front desk to find out why I couldn't sign on. He had given me a password to another network to try, and this didn't work either. So not only was I going to stay in a dirty, smelly room, I was going to stay in one with no internet! (I know what some are thinking: so what?) That was it for me. I hightailed it out of there with the quickness! No more "bargains" for me! I break my wallet on the best or best-adjacent!
“OK for one night”
Nice staff but old hotel that should be renovated. Disappointing breakfast with not much to eat and only coffee as hot beverage.
“Not pleased...”
This hotel was not a pleasant experience for our family. There were crumbs and dirt on the carpet in the hall, and in the sofa bed. Only one staffer was on in the evening, so he couldn't deliver extra bedding, etc. Fixtures (lights, phone plug, towel rack) were falling off the walls. The breakfast is ridiculously small (stale-looking biscuits and cereal) and we didn't want to step foot in that dirty eating area. Next time I will spend the extra $30 for a nicer hotel.
“Nice try by owners, but hotel is outdated and the clientele is questionable.”
The Alabama Hotel was an overnight stop in Montgomery on the way to Destin, FLA. I did little preparation or investigation. The price was right. However, it appeared the owners were trying to make a "go" of it in a rundown hotel. The furniture was old, the room was not perfectly clean, and it needed serious updating. My wife was not happy. When we tried to leave after seeing the room, the manager/owner was called and we spent some time talking with him. The situation was made more complicated by another unhappy customer who wanted his money back. We were not sure whether his "stories" were true or not, but they further urged us to "get out." When the manager said he could not give us money back or tear up our receipt, we agreed to look at another room and decided to take it, despite our uneasiness. Again, I'm sure the owners/management were trying very hard to make this all work, but I would not stay there again, nor would I recommend it to anyone else.
“The Worst”
I had to change rooms because the bath tub was dirty. Some of the channels on the tv wasn't working. The surrounding area was alright, not to far from the mall. I would not go back to this hotel if someone paid me.
“Unhonorable !!!”
My husband and I stayed at this hotel for a night with a good rate.. we told the manager that we would be coming up weekly for the next serveral months and I asked if he would still give us the same rate.. he assured me that he would and when asked to do this survey would i please give him a good rating .. i said i would ... i was unable to and i am glad that i didnt at that time.. the following week when we checked in we were told the price was higher than what it was the previous week.. when talking to the manager he claimed he did not look at the rate we had the previous week and would not honor that rate instead it would be more, as we were discussing the dispute of the rate we were told that if we didnt like it we didnt need to come back.. and loosing our buisiness wouldnt matter to him, he seemed more about not loosing a few dollars than accomadating nothin more than what was expected. Not very good customer service AT ALL !!!!! asked for corporate.. he said " I AM CORPORATE" and refused to give me any other numbers. VERY VERY DISSAPOINTED AND WILL NEVER GO BACK EVEN IF IT WAS FREE !!! NEXT TIME ONLY STAY AT "AMERICAN OPERATED" HOTELS
“Very nice economical place”
The only negatives were: the back door needed repair because it would lock you out; and while we were loading the car - trying not to get locked out again - they locked our room key out, 30 minutes before the check-out time, making it take even longer to get going. The front desk woman wasn't so nice about it either.
