“I loved it!!!”
I had an amazing stay, they were so great, the hotel was super clean, the staf was very pleasant, and the view of central park so perfect. defenitely I would recomend this wonderful place.
“GREAT PRICE, GREAT DEAL”
I stayed in the hostel. There were only two bathrooms for the whole floor, and yet there was never a line to use them. The walls were not very nice looking and the bathrooms were old. there was a small kitchen with a stove fridge and sink for the floor. the staff was not friendly, but not mean. For the price paid, it was an amazing deal. if you are just looking for a bed to sleep in, this is the place for you.
“great bargain, great location”
At first, arriving in the middle of the night, I thought wow, what have I gotten us into. But, we quickly learned to love this place. It is a very old funky building which adds charm. Definitely a no frills place, but very cheap and convenient, with charming local grocery, cafe, and near a bus stop to and from La Guardia airport, subway, etc. We were there for a week and won't hesitate to use it again if we need to go to NYC. It's a HOSTEL, not a hotel so bring your own toiletries and don't expect pampering. We had a fridge and TV in our room though.
“No Frills - Great for Super Travellers”
If you are the type of traveller who uses your accomodations as your place to sleep and shower then this is your place! You get a bed, a secure room and a shower (although it is shared). It may not be fancy with flowers in the hallway, and you should probably wear flip flops in the shower, but our stay was without complaint. I left my laptop and my ipod in the room and they were still there every single time. I did not see any bugs or vermin in the hotel or the room, and the bed was actually comfortable. The people were nice and the location is unbeatable for the price.
“Hostel in NYC”
The West Side Hotel and Hostel has alot going for it; besides the great price, it retains an Old World atmosphere. It is in a convenient, relatively safe location. I stayed in the dormitory and met several European travelers. Although the bathroom was shared, immediate access was no problem. I thought that it was a good value; I had received less for more money for similar accommodations in other parts of the U.S. It is an older, and therefore quirky, building, which adds to the fun. Restaurants and drug stores are within a short distance. It was an enjoyable stay all the way around. I plan on using the West Side again.
“Very basic”
A place to sleep at a reasonable price. Very small room with double bed and bathroom down the hall. Towel but no soap. TV didn't work, which was the only disappointment. Otherwise, very basic hotel/hostle, but exactly what I expected and wanted - nothing more or less. A bit far from the subway (about 3 short blocks). I'd stay there again.
“Can't beat it.”
An incredibly inexpensive, reasonably clean and comfortable place to stay. It's not the Ritz by any stretch of the imagination, but you're in New York, so you only need the room to sleep and shower anyways. Will be staying there again.
“Great bargain”
Yes, it's a hostel. But it's a very good hostel. Surprisingly clean. Front desk (day) were very helpful (night not so much). Good location, safe area. Hotel itself old but kept up pretty well. Elevator got stuck only one night. Bed well-worn but clean (even with a blacklight, which differenciates it from other hotels). Definitely not for prissy people but perfect for budget travellers, college kids, and the like.
“cool place”
cool place. the location is great! Very close to subway and 3 bus lines. hotel was nice, bathroom very clean and everything was perfect except from the smell. it smelled like urine. but for what you pay it's a totally nice place to stay. I recommend this hotel, would stay there again.
“A place to sleep when you walk all day around New York City”
If you are looking for a place to rest after several hours of walking around New York City, this is the place. The location is great; near the subway and a few blocks away from Central Park. The shared bathroom was always clean and we had no problems at all.
