New York Helmsley's 1,000-square-foot fitness facility includes cardio and weight-lifting equipment. Midtown athletic clubs offer swimming and racquet sports.
Central Park, 1.25 miles north, offers a variety of recreational opportunities, including ball fields, tennis courts, rowboat rentals, horseback riding, and miles of trails for hiking, biking, running, and in-line skating. Rockefeller Center's skating rink, nine blocks away, opens in winter, as does Central Park's Wollman Rink. A golf driving range is located at Chelsea Piers sports/entertainment complex on the Hudson River 2 miles west of the hotel.

“number one choice”
Having it been our first time visiting New york we hoped that we had made the right choice for our accommodation.When we turned the corner we didn't realise that it was our hotel. We were so pleased that we had choosen the New york Helmsley.Where it was situated was excellent as it wasn't to close to times square but well within walking distance. I would not hesitate but to recommend to any future visitor.

Good place to stay midtown, very clean, staff are friendly. Only two blocks from Grand Central and could see the Chrysler Building out of my window. Cool.

“Excellent hotel - great value”
We stayed at the Helmsley for one night in January with our two boys. The hotel staff were very friendly and gave us a great room with a view of the Empire State Building, Verrazano bridge and East River, which was a great value. The room was clean, recently renovated, very nice comfortable beds, and the bathroom was marble and clean. The location is central and on a nice part of 42nd street. We would definitely stay there again! Superb value and very friendly and helpful staff.
“Best expires in New York”
When we arrived to the hotel I did not know what to expect. To my surprise it was very clean, personal were very nice and helpful. My room was large enough and clean. Overall, very pleased with my stay there. I would defitnnitly good back since it was right down the street from the Grand Central Station and Time Square it was all just too convinient.

Hotel room was larger than most I've been to in NYC. Staff was extremely friendly and helpful. Check in/out was smooth, no waiting. Would recommend.
“Great Hotel and Location”
This was a great hotel for the price and the location. It was the first time to NYC for my fiancee and myself and we could not have had a better time. The hotel staff was great and satisfied every request that was made of them. The renovations were still ongoing (had hoped they would be done by mid-December) but really were not an issue. We didn't go to NYC to sit in the hotel bar/restaraunt anyway. Overall, a great place to stay for the first time in New York.

“Wonderful Hotel Stay”
After much online research, I finally settled on the New York Helmsley for a first trip to Manhattan. My three sons and I arrived well before check-in but were able to leave our bags and register for our room with no problem. When we returned later that night, after a day of sightseeing unencumbered by our baggage, our room was ready. With a great view of the Chrysler building, two big beds and free wifi, it was clean, cool and perfect. The staff were all friendly and helpful. The location is top notch: close to the subway and the M42 bus that runs straight across Manhattan, from river to river. An affordable breakfast is available 2 doors west of the entrance (can't remember the name of the place but fast service!) to get your day started. The neighbourhood felt very safe. I wouldn't hesitate to stay there again!
