“An excellent place to stay”
The Hawkwell House is just outside of Oxford. A short bus ride from High Street or about a 15-20 minute walk. If you like walking, ask at the desk clerk about walking into Oxford along the river, it's not to be missed. The food in the restaurant was excellent, although dinner is served much later than most Americans are used to. This is an old hotel, and the floors creak a bit, but the rooms were very comfortable and modern. I would definitely recommended this hotel to others.
“Relaxed, yet prestigious hotel with excellent breakfasts!”
The Hawkwell House Hotel in Oxford is situated in the suburbs and so is very quiet and peaceful - perfect for relaxing after a hard day doing whatever you're in Oxford to do. We have stayed at the hotel three times now and would recommend it to anyone. The staff are friendly and incredibly efficient, and, most of all, they leave you alone to go about your business but are on hand straight away if you have any queries. The bedrooms are spacious and airy, with super soft beds and crisp linen. Breakfast is a buffet affair, with both full English and continental breakfast items available, and is served in bright conservatory style restaurant. With regards to price, we have found it very reasonable booking through Expedia. The only problem we encountered was regarding the disabled parking space, which was occupied by a non-disabled person. My husband is registered disabled and needed the parking space. I rang reception to enquire if there was anything they could do. Within five minutes, the receptionist had located the car's owner and requested that he move his vehicle so that we might park in the space. The receptionist's polite and efficient manner were both impressive and much appreciated, as it could have caused problems asking another guest to move their car. All in all 10/10, and wholly recommended.
“Oxford's Finest”
Hawkwell House Hotel was a wonderful experience. Their staff spent time answering all of our questions and I never felt ignored. The hotel was very well maintained and they were very accommodating. We enjoyed our stay and would highly recommend this hotel.
“Lovely property near Oxford”
The Hawkwell House is a simply elegant small hotel with an excellent restaurant. The residential hills where the hotel is located are green and quiet and it is just a few minutes walk to the very convenient bus to Oxford city center. Once on the bus you will be in city center in a few minutes. The staff at Hawkwell house were thoughtfully helpful and international. We had two rooms one in the main house and one in the nearby cottage and both were excellently appointed.
“Very comfortable hotel near Oxford”
Lovely hotel which has been recently updated. Large comfortable room with modern bathroom. Wonderful breakfast. Only setback was needing to take a taxi to town. Would definately recommend this hotel.
“Very pleasant”
Great staff. Great value.
“superb location especially for runners!!!!”
A very pleasant hotel with lots of character, the reception staff were very helpful when asked about the area and offered to print off directions for us to various places. The hotel is situated close to the Thames tow path, ideal for running walking and biking, spent four nights at this hotel and couldn't fault at all.
“Good for a short break in Oxford”
Hotel is not situated near the town centre but is within easy walking distance (over 1 mile)or you can use public transport. Ample car parking. Pleasant surroundings. Comfortable, clean and spacious. Friendly staff. Good breakfast. I would recommend to others.
“Excellent hotel”
A one night stay while visiting Oxford for dinner. Hotel is easily reached from the southern ring-road with directions on local road signs and ample parking. Attractive gardens and nice decor. Reception were welcoming and booked us our taxi to go out that evening and it arrived right on time. A taxi to central Oxford takes less than 10 minutes and was £7.50. If it had been better weather we would have walked along the river towpath which is about 25 minutes but well worth doing. Room was modern, comfortable and clean. Shower had good water pressure. Price for Oxford was competitive. When we got back we enjoyed a late night drink in the bar while watching the 1st Ashes Test on Sky. All staff were smartly dressed, polite and helpful. Breakfast in the morning was very good - plenty of choice (full English, cold meats, cheeses, fruit, cereal, toast, juices) and good coffee. The lounge with open fire, comfy sofas and newspapers is a particularly nice place to spend the evening when it's cold outside. I would think it's better to be out in the gardens in the summer.
“Lovely place to stay in oxford!”
This hotel is a gem, just outside Oxford centre in a lovely village setting. The hotel has a good patio area and gardens. Park and ride nearby makes going into Oxford a breeze. The room was decorated to a high standard and lovely and clean. The staff are friendly and helpful. We dined at the hotel on both nights and the meals were highly satisfied. We woudl definitely recommend it.
