“Everything we had hoped for”
My husband and I were very pleased with our 4 day stay at the Old Parsonage Hotel. Everything about the hotel was charming, from afternoon tea under the blossoming wisteria in the front garden, to the fireplace burning in reception, a bowl of apples in a passage, to stepping out to the back garden from tall doors in our 2 room suite. The room itself was very nice, and had ample closet space to hang everthing. The adjoining sitting room made it all spacious, although I might recommend a more comfortable couch (it's a sleeper bed also, but still, a couch should be comfortable as a couch). Perhaps best of all, there was actually ample light to read by. Oh, and FREE internet in the room. The location was wonderful, combining a parking lot for our rental car and just a 10 min. walk to the very center of Oxford. All in all, we were pleased to no end.
“Swish, comfortable, and great location”
We really enjoyed our one night stay at the Old Parsonage. I don't normally book into hotels in this price bracket, but it was a special occasion. The staff were friendly and attentive, the room was extremely comfortable (excellent bed and shower!), and overall there was nothing to complain about. The breakfast seemed very expensive, so we walked into town in the morning and had a tasty (cheap) meal at Combibos. Wish we'd had a chance to use the complimentary bikes the hotel offers - they looked very nice. Overall, no complaints, excellent time.
“A luxurious haven”
This is a luxurious haven in a superb position in Oxford. I have stayed here for many years and would do so again.
“Convenient to city centre”
Nice hotel walking distance to shops, pubs and colleges
“Welcoming place but a bit tight for space”
The hotel was very welcoming and there was a nice atmosphere in the reception and dining areas. It seemed relaxed in the dining room but it was somewhat strange to see people dragging their suitcases through the dining area to access the rooms. I felt that if the dining area was full it would be too crowded to enjoy a comfortable meal and for that reason we decided to dine elsewhere. The hotel is well located. The room and bed was small. Parking was difficult but the staff were very helpful on this.
“Very pleasant experience”
Very friendly and welcoming staff at reception. We arrived before check-in and left our bags at the front desk while we took a walk. The hotel works with a local woman who gives wonderful tours of the college area, chock full of history and fun facts, and FREE of charge. Rooms were clean and comfortable with nice touches (high quality soaps and lotions, well-stocked mini bar, robes, sweet French doors and a tiny private patio). The breakfast (though not included in the room price) was very tasty and the dining room cozy. The parts of the original building that remain are wonderful (fireplace, window frame) and it sits right next to an old churchyard-- very English. We would definitely return.
“Very Expensive, Not Good Value”
The hotel is beautiful (when it's not under repair). However, the rooms, though appointed in a lovely way, were noisy, doors were easily audible banging most of the day and night. WiFi is not wireless, but wired and fairly slow. For a company that owns multiple restaurants, their ability to serve an edible breakfast was nil. The food, in general was over complicated and underwhelming. The staff was, for the most part haughty, arrogant and unhelpful except for the evening and early morning staff who were far more gracious. All in all, not a good epxerience and not what I'd expect from a hotel in this price range. I feel it is overpriced and underwhelming. The location, on the edge of the central district is good and there are bus stops nearby. Parking is poor and hire cars and taxis that are not local have a difficult time finding it. I will try another hotel on my next trip to Oxford.
