Property Amenities
What to expect: Whirring ceiling fans and large open spaces give the lobby an immediate resort feel. Sun-kissed guests in beachwear loiter around the lobby area, some taking time to read in the lounge.
Facilities: Two large lagoon pools and one children's pool with a slide take center stage at the resort. Adventure Zone is an air-conditioned family entertainment facility for children and adults that includes drop slides, play equipment, game zone, and snack counter and cafe. The resort also has a complimentary full-day childcare program from morning till evening, and a fitness facility.
Manicures, pedicures, and various hairstyling services are available at spa/salon. A small shopping area includes an art gallery and souvenir shop-cum-tailor, where outfits can be tailored within three days. A laundry facility with washers and dryers is open for guest use.
Internet access: Public areas, including some restaurants, lobby, function rooms, garden, and pool areas, have wireless Internet access.
Conference/function room(s): The hotel has one 335-square-meter (3,605-square-foot) ballroom for up to 400 people, and four other function rooms of varying sizes, from 58 square meters (624 square feet) to 133 square meters (1,431 square feet). Audiovisual equipment includes an LCD projector, microphone, overhead projector, laser pointer, CD player, and DVD player.
Insider tip: The streets immediately outside the hotel come alive in the late evening with night-market stalls hawking souvenir items, electronic goods, and clothing. Also across the street is a 24-hour convenience store where guests can stock up on drinks and snacks to fill guestroom refrigerators.
Rooms
Golden Sands Resort by Shangri-La has 387 guestrooms, all upwards of 30 square meters (323 square feet). All include complimentary wired and wireless Internet access; cable TVs with CNN, NHK, Star Movies, Star Sports, Cartoon Network, and Vision 4 (movies).
Electric kettles are complemented by complimentary tea and coffee, complimentary bottled drinking water, and mini-refrigerators. Bathrooms have second telephones and combination shower/tubs with removable shower heads.

A buffet breakfast is provided each morning.
Garden Cafe - Casual café on lobby floor. Unenclosed dining area cooled by ceiling fans. Views of garden, pool, and sea. Rattan furnishings with floral upholstery. Serves buffet breakfast and à la carte menu of Western and local cuisine for lunch and dinner; occasional buffets on selected nights during off-peak season (nightly during peak season).
Sigi's Bar and Grill On The Beach - A family-style restaurant. Themed buffets include barbecues, seafood, and healthy salads as well as a variety of local Asian dishes. Restaurant offers tasty children's menu. Alfresco dining on the Batu Feringgi beach. Colorful tablecloths, bright blue chairs and brightly colored hand-painted crockery create a cheerful atmosphere. Band from lounge plays nightly (except Tuesdays). Open for dinners only.
Recreation
The Shangri-La's fitness center on the ground floor is approximately 50 square meters (538 square feet) and has two treadmills, one step machine, one rowing machine, two bicycles, and a free-weights area. A personal trainer is also on site. Open from early morning till late night.
Two irregularly shaped swimming pools face the beach, and a small children's pool with a slide and a 20-seat jetted pool complements. Pool games are occasionally organized for guests.
The Golden Sands Resort features an Adventure Zone, a 10,300-square-foot indoor Family Entertainment Center with drop slides, modular play equipment, a game zone, and theme birthday party rooms.
Other recreational facilities include 3 tennis courts, La Petanque (French bocce) court, and a Par 3 Executive Golf Course. A water sports center by the beach provides equipment for non-motorized water sports like fishing, canoeing, and windsurfing.
Private operators along the beach provide opportunities for other sports such as jet skiing, parasailing, and horse riding. Across the street from the hotel's front entrance are bicycle and scooter rental shops. Biking trails can be found at Teluk Bahang National Park, about 7 km (4.5 miles) away. The recreational activities listed below are available either on site or nearby; fees may apply.

“Great place to stay in Penang!”
This ia great beach front resort to stay in Penang. Our luxurious room had a balcony with full view of the Batu Ferranghi beach. The full buffet breakfast was delicious. The service is just great! There are two pools just before you enter the beach area. The hotel has an hourly shuttle service to George Town that was very convenient. I would highly recommend this hotel both for families or individuals on business trips.
“Nice place and warm hearted service”
Beautiful Hotel with good amenities and top class service ,very friendly staff,pools and gardens were very relaxing and enjoyeble.Great breakfast made it cherry on cake.Wonderful location as well every thing on your doorstep like restaurents,shopping and fun places.Definetely would love to stay again.
“Simply the best”
This is the best hotel in Batu Ferringhi, Penang. There are posher hotels, there are cheaper hotels but the Golden Sands is a well appointed hotel with exceptional staff. The quality of this hotel is proved by the fact that many people return to the Golden Sands year after year (we have only been going there for 12 years, I believe 40 years is the current record).
“We hope to return in the not-to-distant future”
We had selected a ' Hill view ' room in making our booking but were startled to hear the very amplified ' Call to prayer ' from near-by, prior to 6.00am. on our first two mornings. We were happy to pay a small additional charge to move to an ' Ocean view ' room and for the rest of our stay we had no disturbances. All the available facilities were first class and we found that the ability to use those of the Rasa Sayang were much appreciated. It was the most pleasant holiday that we have experienced for quite some time, in spite of the long time of the journey from/to our home in Australia.

We were welcomed back to the Golden Sands as if we were regulars, no registration, no formalities. The helpfulness and efficiency of the staff were excellent and the facilities were as good as ever.
“Nice hotel in Penang”
My Wife & I were welcomed to the recently refurbished hotel, we had a hills view room on 1st floor, which was well maintained, empty bar fridge in room for your cool drinks, hair drier provided, ice on request. Buffet Breakfast was provided with a huge choice of foods including fresh cooked omelettes & eggs, most other foods help yourselves, fruit, turkey bacon, Sausage & asian foods (curry, etc). 3off computers provided in guest lounge connected to 'net, as well as connections in each room. Swimming pools great & well maintained with free towels & a lifeguards monitoring pools (3off). Lots of activities for children. The hotel is well located on the Batu Ferringi beach, evening meals are available near the hotel, also the hotel has reasonable priced buffet dinners about 3 times weekly. All guests of various nationalities appeared relaxed & happy & there were no problems as everything was well run & organised. Many of the guests were repeat customers, so this showed that the Golden Sands was popular.3 Food, clothing, luggage, giftware are all reasonably priced. Wine was expensive, so buy some duty free on outward journey. I commend duty Manager Selva on his welcome at check in & took us to our room to describe features. Well done Golden Sands & Shang gri La for a happy, relaxed holiday.
“Golden Sands Resort -Penang”
Beautifully landscaped resort with lovely pools and wonderful staff that go above and beyond to be gracious and helpful. Breakfast buffet included in our package was exceptional, with Western and Asian selections in a pretty setting. On site restaurants-although food is good-are pricey as were alcoholic drinks. They do have a limited" happy hour" poolside where drinks are reduced by 40% bringing them more in-line with prices in the area.The one restaurant on site (Sigi's) that offers a "happy hour" informed us that this did not apply to the carafe of house wine that we ordered for our table..a very unpleasant surprise. (If you enjoy a poolside Pina Colada or a glass of wine with dinner, plan accordingly). We would not hesitate to return to Golden Sands.
“Can't wait to go back”
The service at this resort is next to none. The staff especially Bipul in the Garden Cafe Restaurant and Kenny duty manager were unbelievable. The activities in the pool - volley ball and netball were hilarious, great way to meet other guests. The food was in abundance and a brilliant variety - the seafood buffet is a must! My mother and I were treated like royalty! All in all an awesome resort with brilliant service and facilities for both couples of all ages and families with children. To all the staff a huge thankyou for making our holiday experience truely unforgettable . And thankyou again to the Duty Manager Kenny and Bipul in the Restuarant, a true asset to the Resort.

This hotel is reasonably priced for an ocean front resort. The ocean view and the pool are spectacular.
