Carefree Resort encompasses 23 acres of the Sonora high desert peppered with desert wildflowers, towering saguaro, and prickly pear cacti. The resort is 2 miles from the town of Carefree's art galleries, shopping, and restaurants. Complimentary transportation is provided within five miles, on demand, and based on availability. All 234 climate-controlled guestrooms and villas at the Carefree Resort & Conference Center offer furnished balconies or patios with panoramic views of the Continental Mountains, the pool area with desert landscaping, the golf course, or the desert. Guestrooms include beds with triple sheeting, HDTVs with premium channels, trouser presses, complimentary wireless Internet access, and complimentary weekday newspapers. Bathrooms have either showers or bathtubs, and slippers are provided. Microwaves and refrigerators are available on request.

Villas have separate living areas with sofa beds, adobe-style gas fireplaces, multiple televisions and phones, and shared or private laundry facilities. In addition to 2-person spa tubs, Master and Grand Villa Suites offer fully equipped kitchens with refrigerators, microwaves, and stovetops.

The Lariat Restaurant - Overlooking the main pool with views of the Continental Mountains, the restaurant serves seafood, steaks, pasta, brick-fired pizza, and other popular fare. Decor includes rock walls, a fireplace, and potted cacti. Outdoor dining is available on the adjoining Sunset Terrace. Breakfast, lunch, and dinner are served.

Recreation

Spanning 23 acres of the Sonora high desert, the Carefree Resort offers numerous recreational opportunities. Guests have access to 2 outdoor pools and 5 lighted tennis courts. A tennis pro, lessons, and equipment rental are also available (surcharge). A complimentary fitness center offers treadmills, stationary bikes, stair machines, weight-training equipment, and an outdoor deck with mountain views.

On Friday and Saturday nights, during summer months, "dive-in" movies are screened at the main pool area. Bicycle rentals make it easy for guests to explore the peaceful landscape.

Destination activities geared toward families are offered daily; several are complimentary. On Friday nights, a singing cowboy on horseback makes an appearance.

The resort can arrange a variety of off site activities that include boating and fishing on Bartlett Lake, hot-air balloon rides, and Jeep excursions (surcharges). Guests also enjoy priority access to 15 highly ranked golf courses nearby, including the Grayhawk Golf Club, designed by Tom Fazio, and Dove Valley Ranch Golf Club, designed by Robert Trent Jones, Jr.

“Our favorite Phoenix area resort!”

This is our third time at this resort. We love it! It's a bit far from Scottsdale, Mesa, and Phoenix, but manageable. We love the rural nature of the area - beautiful southwest surroundings! There is a wonderful restaurant with superb service at reasonable prices on site.

“A Wonderfully Pleasant Desert Resort”

Spring training trip. Resort up in the foothills and not centrally located, but within driving distance of baseball parks. I was pleasantly surprised. Spectacular desert scenery and wonderful night sky. Expected a smaller room, but got one of the villas. Wifi was available and appreciated. The only minor complaints: small TV and ice not readily available in the room, although there was a small refrigerator for storing soda. A chair or sofa would have been nice to have, too. Restaurant food and service was very good, except for hard dinner rolls on one occasion.

“Gorgeous!”

Our room was clean and comfortable. The resort is awesome. The grounds are beautiful and the staff is very attentive. The night we got there we sat around a campfire until midnight with the activities director (a Hopi Indian) who told us Native American stories and legends. He gave us some great travel advice for our trip to the Grand Canyon, too. The pool kicks butt! We had a blast and we will definitely go back. The only negative is that we had an awful meal at the restaurant/bar on the grounds. Stay away from the pulled pork;it tasted like shoelaces. Walk or drive to the town of Carefree. It is within walking distance (drive if it's too hot) and they have great shopping, and great cafes and restaurants.

“Very good hotel would stay there again”

The location, hotel staff and rooms were all excellent. The hotel restaurant was also very good and the staff there was friendly as well. All in all a great place to stay. As with all places in Phoenix, you will need a car.

“lovely peaceful stay”

Everything about this resort is nicely thought out, and the staff couldn't be more helpful. There is a bit of a stroll from the villas to the main complex but it's a nice walk. Nice breakfasts and we appreciated the free in room wifi internet. We'll be back...

“Nice place for a weekend getaway”

We live in the Phoenix area and have stayed in almost all of the 4&5-star hotels. We spend 2-nights at the Carefree Resort and had a nice relaxing weekend getaway. The hotel staff was very accommodating - letting us look at 3 different rooms before selecting the one we wanted. Spacious rooms! Clean and well decorated. Private balcony was nice at sunset, happy hour, and morning coffee. The breakfast was surprisingly good (huge portions) at a reasonable price. Excellent hotel roonm rate, relative to other 4&5-star hotels in the area -- would stay there again.
