When you think about it many hotels are quite similar. As you travel more, you become accustomed to distilling the advantages of differing locations. Consider then the many advantages for you of staying in Queenstown's historic precinct of Arrowtown.
There remain corners of New Zealand where you can escape the 'madding crowds'. We call these 'our places'. This precinct is such a place - a 'Kiwi-Secret'. Authentic and relaxing are adjectives that spring to mind. Established following the discovery of gold 150 years ago, today you’ll discover a sophisticated village reflecting echoes of the past.
For ourselves, when travelling we like to find the ‘best’ location in the cities we visit. You can relax now, because in Queenstown we have done this for you. Arrowtown House is what you are looking for. Relax & enjoy yesterdays pace of life.
You’ll be seduced by the quiet charm. The historic precinct promises you a mecca of unforgettable dining experiences including 'Saffron' restaurant rated in the ‘Worlds Top 100’ by Conde Nast Traveller.
You'll discover cobblestone lanes leading you to explore contemporary galleries, fashion, brew-pubs, cool cafes, groovy bars & an art-house cinema. All only 2-mintes walk from Arrowtown House. Cycling & hiking trails lead directly from the hotel to vineyards & lakeside trails
Country atmosphere | City convenience. A perfect balance
Only 15 minutes from downtown-Queenstown, but a world removed. As you relax & wind down in comfort we will not be surprised to hear you comment that the attractions of downtown-Queenstown are well…………..not so attractive!
Summer months may find you curled up in a private garden corner, finally finishing that book. In cooler months the lounge beckons with its open fire, bar & cellar of wines.
Did you know that 21,000 vehicles traverse Queenstown’s main street daily? Can you see now why the historic precinct has become a 'Kiwi Secret'?

The special touches start before you arrive. The wine is chilled for cocktail hour, canapés are in the oven, a chair is reserved for you in the garden

Recreation
Lovers of the great outdoors will immediately enjoy the convenience of the historic precinct. As distinct from the rush of downtown vehicles, here you can hike or cycle commencing at the hotel without fear of ever-present speedsters! - a real advantage for you
Arrowtown House is at the epicentre of the Queenstown Trail - a looping trail leading around alpine lakes to vineyards. We can organize self-guiding or guided cycling for you. Prior reservations are essential.
Enquire about the Arrowtown House Stay-Ride Around the Mountain Trail Package. Start your day with a scenic 45-minute cruise on the historic steamship TSS Earnslaw. Launched in 1912, today the Earnslaw is the only passenger-carrying steamboat left operating in the Southern Hemisphere. This cruise takes you from downtown-Queenstown to the opposite side of Lake Wakatipu, New Zealand’s longest & third largest lake. You disembark at Walter Peak a 6500-acre sheep ranch founded in 1860. Today the ranch runs 1500 sheep and 1000 cattle. The sheep are hardy merino in the higher regions and perendale on the lower slopes. Walter Peak Station is notable for it’s isolation. Other than the steamship, its only other access is a 124 km unsealed road [from the direction of Te Anau] known for obvious reasons colloquially as the ‘Back Road’. Mounting your bikes you head off on the ‘Back Road’. Today you will cycle along this route enjoying wonderful lake & mountain views. Considering your close proximity to Queenstown you will find the feeling of remoteness & isolation very refreshing. Other than passing through a second sheep ranch - Mount Nicholas, you will see very few signs of human habitation. In the afternoon allow sufficient time to retrace your steps & return to Queenstown on the Earnslaw.
If you like to sweat but not cycle, a 5 minute drive brings you to a health & fitness centre. Here join in yoga, aqua aerobic, pilates, or pump classes. A 25m indoor pool awaits you.
Does all this sound too sweaty for you? Don’t worry! Queenstowners have also embraced 'the good life'
In 5 minutes you can be sitting in a vineyard tasting fine regional fare, enjoying a glass of the local bounty.
Other 5 minute drives lead you to ranches for horse riding, outdoor Japanese baths, Shotover Jet, white-water rafting. You can take the opportunity to join a 4WD excursion. Your safari driver will take you from the hotel to ghost towns & remarkable canyons while explaining 150 years of human history to you
If by now you're thinking 'its all here'...................you'd be quite correct!

“Astounded in Arrowtown”
Quite probably the best place we've ever stayed, in New Zealand or anywhere else. Great location, magnificent hosts, splendid food. The perfect spot to enjoy the Queenstown region - fine dining restaurants only minutes walk away, all the big ticket attractions within 15 minutes drive, none of the hustle and bustle of Queenstown itself. Can't wait to go back.
