“Hidden treasures”
Can't say a whole lot about the hotel and room. Clean, basic. Food was decent but not anything spectacular. What was special is the grounds. Fantastic waterfalls with swimming pools a short hike away. Monkeys escorted us down to our "private" swimming hole. It was warm that I never thought I would enjoy the natural hot springs but I was wrong!. They felt great after the afternoon swim. We planned to go into the park but it was closed the day we arrived and our schedule did not permit another day. Just hanging around the hotel grounds which are significant gave us a good flavor for the area and made it a very enjoyable visit.
“costa rica”
Hotel was OK. The activities were great and the price for the activies was very good.
“Rustic”
We wanted an experience away from everything else and got it. A small resort with everything we needed but no more. Clean spares rooms. The tours are across the road and easy to get to. The Hot springs and mud batths bit dissapointing. We loved the resort and it was just what we were looking for in the middle of somwhere Costa Rica. Great Expedia price for the october off season.
“Would highly recommend this hotel”
Good: This hotel was a good value and I thought it was a great place to stay for the price. It wasn't fancy and had spartan furnishings, but was immaculately clean, kept up very well, and the service was spectacular...for this price range. We had a room with no A/C and it was not a problem in mid-June. I would recommend it to anyone with the caveat that you cannot expect a 5-star hotel for a 2-star price. The available activities are first rate. The zip line, tubing, and horse back riding are safe and very well run. Not so good: This hotel is very isolated. Without a car, you won't be close to anything else, except Rincon de la Vieja National Park. We didn't have a car and stayed for 3 nights and that was about right. Any more and we would have been sitting around with nothing to do. The food and beverage prices are expensive for Costa Rica and without a car, you won't have alternatives. The health spa, Symbiosis, is nothing to write home about. I wouldn't pay for it...but it was included in the Adventure Pass, so we went. Summary: I'm a traveler on a budget. The food and drinks were really overpriced, but the prices for the room and activities more than made up for it. As I said in the title, I would highly recommend this hotel.
“The rough dire leading to the hotel was worth it”
The hotel was amazing, we encounter numerous of creatures on site, once in the hotel, it was easy to travel around.
“Excellent Adventures Rough Rooms Expensive Drinks”
Costa Rica is a very inflated place to visit. Costs for common items, and entertainment is as expensive as anyplace in North America or Europe. Typical Beer Price in a Squalid Hotel; $4-5. USD. (although at a small road-side cart price is dramatically lower). Typical Meal Cost for Two; $45-80, depending upon drinks and Apps; Even in a run-down off-season Place. This is no surprise, as Costa Rica has been evolving/inflating for several years to meet the tastes of visitors from Europe, S.A., USA, and Canada. So it should come as no surprise that when sequestered off-season in a remote Horse Ranch in NW Costa Rica, one should expect to pay dearly for elegant food (Gallo Pinto), a Clean towel, Hot Shower and and friendly staff. Hacienda Guachipelin has a friendly staff, Great Adventure Tours (in a run-down yellow school bus). As for creature comforts such as; Comfortable Rooms, Hot Shower, Clean Towels, TV, Free Fast Internet, Well ...No. The towels are gray and threadbare. The Rooms are run-down, with broken fixtures, and sagging beds. The dim Cabinas need serious work, Perhaps new Tile, fresh paint, New Sinks, New Towels, Soap, Lighting, Outlets, Linens, new doors, and screens etc... but for the fair price of an adventure tour, The Hacienda is worth the drive. The adventures and staff are exceptional. Oh; And Costa Rica -- build some roads. Really... 4x4 is no issue, (even fun) but when you charge Paris Prices for Surf-side Hotels, you need a road, not a horse-path.
“Good, only too much tour operators”
It's a nice hotel on an nice location. The only problem is that there are too many tour operators. Lot's of big groups (20 people and more). You can't go out for dinner if you don't have your own car, The first restaurant is 20 minutes drive away.
“Meh”
We booked this hotel based on its location as we wanted to go to the Rincon de la Vieja National Park. The rooms are simple and clean. The rooms seem clean but the linens have an odd smell which makes you question the cleaniness. Unfortunately, we were not impressed by the hotel restaurant. The restaurant seemed to be very well staffed and the staff seemed to working yet the restaurant never seemed to be properly cleaned (we were seated at a table where the tablecloths were very stained). We were also served raw chicken which we had to send back - what was unsual about this was that the chicken was sliced so we don't' know why the chef didn't realize this when she/he put it on the plate. The hotel has an adventure centre which offers a one-day adventure pass (where you can zip lining, horseback ride, go tubing, and head to the mud baths) for $80. Seems like a good deal although we didn't participate in it as we had done a few of these adventures in Arenal and Monteverde. Overall, we would just say this hotel was meh. It wasn't horrible but we don't think that we would stay there again nor recommned it to anyone.
