“Quiet Secluded Hotel with Great Beach.....Yet close to town!”
My wife and I were looking for a quiet, get away hotel. We have 2 kids at home(that didn't make the trip) and were looking for a quiet hotel that didn't have a million kids running around. We decided against the big box all inclusive and decided on Mahekal. It was a great choice as our room came with 2 meals a day (breakfast and either lunch or dinner). We usually chose lunch so we could enjoy dinner out on 5th street. Again, another great decision. We saw and spoke with several couple who were in all inclusives but were tired of the buffett and decided to eat out. Keep in mind that this hotel does not have TV's or phones in the room. There is interenet access in the lobby. If you are looking for a true getaway with a wonderful beach....look no further.
“BEST BEACH RESORT IN PLAYA”
GREAT BEACH LOCATION! AMAZING RESORT, TOTALLY CARIBBEAN-FEEL LIKE! STAFF IS GREAT, "ROOMS" ARE CLEAN AND MORE THAN WHAT WE EXPECTED. STAFF IS SO NICE, AND FOOD IS TOP NOTCH! A TRUE PARADISE RESORT. CAN'T WAIT TO GET BACK.
“Paradise is Waiting!!!”
This resort is truely paradise! My husband & I went for a quick getaway & we found heaven! Front desk is very helpful and kind. Wait staff will go above and beyond. When you leave you feel like family! We are already planning our next trip back to Mahekal, it is truely "magical"!
“Perfect destination”
This is a resort located on the beach and 4 or 5 blocks from the famous 5th Avenue in Playa del Carmen so you are near but not inside of the center of the action giving you a more intimate environment . The breakfast and the dinner are included in the price but you can always change your dinner for lunch. The quality of the food is not 5 stars but is very good. The waiters and the people working in the hotel are really nice and friendly, specially the waiter Rogelio. They will always try to please you and you will feel more like in a family than in a hotel. If you go to the 5th Ave. I will recommend you the mexican grill La Parrilla with greats meats and good prices. Also the restaurant Madre Tierra is very good. I will recommend you to visit Xel-Ha and to take the Sea Passion catamaran tour to Isla Mujeres.
“Excellent Location”
The Mahekal is right on the beach and just a few blocks off 5th street. It is within walking distance for just about anything you could want to do in Playa.Del Carmen. The staff and service at the hotel were excellent. Everyone was attentive and took care of anything you could need. This is a modified all inclusive, so with that said, do not expect the food to be anything but average. Breakfast is good. Dinner is hit or miss. I would opt for lunch instead as there are better choices on the menu and you can find wonderful places elsewhere for dinner. We have been to several resorts in the Caribbean and this is the first place I can say that we will return to in the future.
“Mahekal”
We chose this hotel because of all reviewed hotels it was the only one that didnt have a negative review posted. I wont be the first to do that! Mahekal is wonderful, location, rooms, ambiance, food - everything was first class. One cautionary comment though - if they suggest using Orange Tours to do a tour anywhere (ruins, other beaches etc) just say NO! They are the most disorganized rude and uncaring bunch Ive come across. The hotel did recommend them and I told them of my experience after so hopefully they wont recommend them again. We will go back to Mahekal - as soon as possible!
“Would go back!!!!”
Fabulous!!!!
“We WILL be back again, can't wait!”
I cannot say enough about the Resort. Everything and everyone were simply outstanding. From our initial greeting with cold water and cool wash towels, to the room, beach location, staff and thought put into daily activities. Meals were very good and a great variety to choose from. This is also a very family friendly resort and it looked as if all the kids had plenty to do along with the pools and beach. I think this is one of the best locations on the entire coast line. Many off site activities available which are easily arranged through the concierge. Overall just a great experience and we are already planning our next visit.
“No better place to relax”
My husband and I just returned from a 7 night stay at the Mahekal Beach Resort and we can't wait to go back. It was the most relaxing vacation we've ever experienced. The moment we arrived sweet Jose set up our hammocks and we took a nap listening to the crashing waves and feeling the cool beach breezes through the beautiful palm trees. Just twenty feet or so from our room was where we would set up on the beach each day in two chairs under a palapas. The breakfast was wonderful! The fresh fruit was beautifully presented and my favorite was the watermelon juice. The staff in the dining room was delightful! Alberto and Rogelio were always smiling and helpful in teaching me some Spanish. They truly made meal time so nice for us. We recommend getting an Ocean View room. Lunch offers a diverse menu. I loved the fish sandwich and the chicken fajitas. The guacamole is delicious! When you go to 5th (we walked both beach and street) be prepared to ignore the over jealous salesmen. You may want to get recommendations on restaurants and bars before you go. We found ourselves overwhelmed by the number of choices. The concierge, Boli, is a tremendous help is setting up any off site exploring you'd like to do. I suggest you hire his friend Ipolito for site seeing and transportation. He's a former waiter from the hotel, now a taxi driver who is extremely personable and knowledgeable. We found his fee very fair. He will be an advocate for you at the tourist traps which will offset his fee.
“Excellent resort in Playa del Carmen”
After a lot of research, my wife and I decided to stay at Mahekal beach resort for our vacation to Playa del Carmen. I am so glad we did. We had a wonderful stay at Mahekal beach resort. The resort is beautiful and very peaceful. Everyone was so polite and helpful and made our stay very comfortable. The food was also great at the restaurant which varied from a buffet night to a delicious menu every other day. In addition, 3 times a week, there were small shows during dinner (people playing guitars, Mariachi, and even on one occasion two musicians playing a harp and a violin who played exquisitely both instruments). Our rooms was nice and cozy and very clean. I would certainly recommend to stay at this place and we would look forward to going back soon!
