This resort mixes the columns and low white buildings of a classic Mediterranean style with the painted, carved decorations and mariachi-band sculptures of a Mexican hacienda style.
Because the buildings do not block the sun, guests can bask by the pool or on the beach right up until sunset. To cool off, they can lie on in-water chaise lounges or jump into either of three freeform pools, one whose swim-up bar has swing seating. Butlers stroll through pool and beach areas with books, magazines, sunscreen, and drinks.
A fitness center features cardio and strength-training equipment and is divided by a glass wall from a studio for Pilates and spinning classes. The lobby contains billiard tables; billiards and Ping-Pong also can be played in the 24-hour VIP Lounge.
Six restaurants offer a wide variety of cuisine, including the Chef's Plate, with multi-course meals where guests can discuss dishes with the chef and wines with the sommelier. Cocktails are available at four bars—including one with nightly music—and 24-hour room service is provided.
A business center provides computers, fax machines, office supplies, and high-speed Internet access. Wireless Internet access is complimentary throughout the property. In addition to concierge services, a special romance concierge is on site to provide information tailored for couples.

“AMAZING!!!”
We LOVED our stay! Would recommend this hotel to anyone. We will return soon!
“Best Service and Quality”
Without question the best service and overall quality we've ever had from any resort we've ever stayed at.
“Adult fun”
I felt completely pampered! Very nice. Must be 16 and over to stay there so it was nice to have some days without kids. Great entertainment show on Friday nights. Also enjoyed the daytime activities as well. Highly recommend it!
“Nice place”
We stayed there for 4 days (3 nights). It was great.
“Great time”
We enjoyed the most being there. Awesome hotel and the staff is great. THey helped in everything we need. The restaurants are superb too. The only bad thing is the rocky beach near the pier, but onde you get to the left it is fine.
“Fourth Year In A Row Going To The Royal!!!”
Fourth year in a row going to The Royal and can't wait for the fifth. The Royal is located two blocks from fifth avenue shopping district and is a very safe at all times. Some highlights are the many restaurants, location, employees, room, food, and beach. Only negative things I can say is the pool is cold but can be refreshing on hot days, and they run out of premium liquors. Advise for anyone going to this resort for the first time is AVOID the free tour and bag it's a TIME SHARE they believe in very high pressure sales and can make for a bad start to your vacation!!!!!!
“Fantastic.”
Fantastic service and excellent food at the restaurants. Great place to get away and relax. Highly recommend upgrading to a Master Suite - nice to have the extra room.
“The Royal is wonderful”
The hotel is wonderful, Very clean and the rooms are spacious. The staff is very accomodating. The resort is right across from downtown Playa del Carmen so it's nice to take walks there. The food is very good.
“Amazing!”
The hotel and staff was brilliant. We enjoyed our staff immensely. The hotel offered every type of amenity one could ask for. The room service was great, the pool side and beach service was spectacular. The dining and bars were amazing!
“Great for couples”
My husband and I just returned from our honeymoon and are already excited about returning. The food was beautiful and delicious, and the drinks were always flowing. I work in customer service, and the staff here was beyond amazing. We've never been treated so kindly at a hotel. There are only two things we would have changed: #1 more mexican food. Sounds silly (and the food was amazing) but don't be surprised if you don't eat any burritos, tacos, enchiladas etc. the entire time. And #2 they say "no spring breakers" which is awesome, but most of the people in their 40's were behaving much worse than spring breakers. We are in our mid-late 20's and were shocked by some of the lewd behavior by these "adults." The groups of 20+ middle aged, drunken people didn't ruin our honeymoon, but again, don't be surprised if you run into a few. Those things minor in comparison to all of the amazing ammentities this hotel has. We had the best time of our life and can't wait to return. :)
