“Great hotel - and amazing food!”
What a gem of a place! Family owned country house set amongst vine-yards. The train station to Rome is only a few minutes away; and takes about 25min to the centre. The hotel itself is beautiful - full of antique furniture and paintings. The owners are also specialist wine advisors and take their food very seriously - so if you stay, make sure you stay for the evening meal! Rooms are fine - clean and tidy. I'd recommend this as a great place for a couple to stay - great food, Rome on your door step and a beautiful house to stay in. The price is also v competitive. We were flying Campino(?) airport, which is only about 20min drive away. Enjoy!
“Excellent, Comfortable, Genuine Italian Hospitality”
My wife and I loved this hotel. It is small but elegant, with friendly staff who could not do enough for us. If you want a genuine Italian break in the countryside, we fully recommend
“A great country stay”
We were really impressed with Villa Germaine.The villa and grounds are beautiful, set on an olive grove and vineyard. The staff were very friendly and helpful. Not everybody spoke English, but I think that added to the fun. The hotel is an agriturismo, so I suggest that for those who like large impersonal luxury hotels, it probably isn't for you. But it suited us. The food was delicious and we felt like we were having an authentic Italian experience. . The room wasn't huge but had all the basics and was charming. I imagine a car would be necessary/preferable. Going to Rome was easier by train from the local station (20 mintues to Termini station) than driving.
“A real taste of rural Italy”
I'd describe the Villa Germaine as a rural, family-run, luxury B&B. It is every bit as beautiful as in the pictures. The villa's garden is surrounded by its own large vineyards and olive groves, and the slightly scruffy light industrial units you pass outside the estate's main gate do not intrude. The staff are friendly and helpful but their English is about as good as my Italian (i.e. not very good). This may improve in peak season when from what I understood of our conversation they hire English-speaking help. The room itself (particularly the bed) was very comfortable. Others have commented on the plumbing. The cold water pressure (derived from an electric pump, presumably their own borehole) ) fluctuates over about a 40 second cycle. This is a problem if you like your shower at a stable temperature, and not fluctuating between scalding and freezing. We gave up and had baths for the rest of the week. Also we experienced a 2 hour power cut due to a terrific thunderstorm which took out the water pump and turned on the emergency lighting in the middle of the night. Not something you'd expect in the city, but power cuts are relatively common in the countryside even in England. If you want a taste of the real rural Italy, restaurants frequented by locals rather than tourist menus in English, to be awakened by birdsong rather than Rome traffic, then give Villa Germaine a try. I hope you will enjoy it as much as we did.
