We are Americans who live in Brazil, so we're very familiar with service standards for both countries, which is why I say this hotel is good for Brazil. At first glance it appears to be 5 stars, but as you peel back the layers of the onion, it really isn't fantastic. Our room was nice and clean, except for the bathtub which was quite gross with mildew growing everywhere. The buffet is large with a decent variety, but the food is mediocre at best. We tried to get reservations for the "theme" restaurants, but were told they were booked up except for our last night there. When we passed the restaurants in the evening, they were only half filled, so not sure why we weren't allow to make a reservation. The service in general was not good, but very typical for Brazilian standards. As other reviewers have noted, most of the staff do not speak any English. This was not a major issue for us since we speak a fair amount of Portuguese, but did cause some confusion on several incidents (like when someone came knocking on our door and absolutely insisted on coming in to check something in our closet despite the fact that we were not dressed...turns out they were checking to make sure we had an iron. We politely told her no several times, but she refused to leave until we let her in the room).
