“2-3 star Gem”
This hotel is close to most things in San Diego. The outside makes it appear a bit run down. The staff is friendly. The courtyard is beautiful. The food is a typical continental breakfast. It has a nice pool and spa. I would recommend this place to any one. One tip, the shower heads are a bit lower than normal.
“Very Good Experience”
This was the first trip I booked entirely online so I was a little nervous about the hotel. Needless to say, I was very very pleased with the hotel, the cleanliness, the location. If I ever go back to San Diego, I would not hesitate to stay here.
“GREAT PLACE TO STAY”
We were a little sceptical of staying in a hotel that was rated lower than 4 stars. When we got to the hotel we were VERY PLEASANTLY surprised. The landscaping was beautiful, the people were friendly and professional. Our room was clean and comfy. The pool/hot tub was very clean. We were impressed with the amount of care that they put into the grounds...very pretty! We will stay here any time we go to San Diego. Close access to zoo, freeways, restaurants, shopping, etc. Very helpful staff, ready to help out with any of our needs. LOVED IT!!!
“Great place”
Overall, the hotel was more than I expected. Very clean, quiet, and relaxing. Location couldn't be better. Everything was 15 minutes away! It is nice place to come alone or with family (we had our 9 months old son). I would stay there again.
“great value”
I picked this hotel based on previous reviews and the low cost. As mentioned before, this is an older hotel... although not run down, and the pillows were small. Other than that, I have no complaints. Our room was very clean every night, bathtub scrubbed, floor vacuumed, totally cleaned. The front office staff was pleasant... there were plenty of parking spaces and the grounds are very nice. This hotel is very close to the highway, a Wal Mart, grocery stores and plenty of restaurants. We stayed for an event at the convention center and the drive downtown was very easy from this location. We had a very good experience staying here. It was well worth it for the cost.
“Nice, helpful staff and clean rooms...”
Everyone at the hotel was friendly and helpful when I was in need of more pillows, a roll-away bed, more towels or directions to a local shopping mall. The room was clean and the bed was comfy. Continental breakfast was light - just enough. Conveniently located to all local attractions.
“charming”
I booked this based on other reviews I read on this website. The rooms are comfortable and clean (no fancy frills) but the courtyard won my heart...I had siblings staying in other rooms and the courtyard with it's divided garden rooms was just a wonderful place to wonder and meet and also to have some time to oneself. When I go back to San Diego I will certainly stay here again.
“A piece of Heaven”
This is the second time we have stayed at the California Suites in as many years. Its like a piece of heaven, away from the hustle and bustle of the city. It does have easy freeway access when we have things to do. Clean, comfortable and familiar.
“We had a great time at this hotel!”
My family and I just went on our annual summer trip and this year we stayed at the California Suites Hotel in San Diego. We rented 4 rooms total and had kids from 9 months of age to 17. Everyone was very happy with their rooms. Their was lots of space in our room, and we all had little kitchenettes with microwaves and refrigerators in each room. Everyone said that the beds were comfortable but some of the pillows were a bit flat. We took the advice of another traveler and brought our own pillows. Breakfast in the morning was pretty good. (Assortment of cereal, muffins, donuts, bagels, toast, juice and coffee) My husband, our navigator, said the hotel was in the perfect location for traveling to all the different places in San Diego. We went to the Zoo, Pacific beach, and La Jolla and got there with no problem. The grounds of the hotel was beautiful with lush gardens and the pool and spa were great too! Oh, and when my aunt had a laundry emergency, we were pleased to find there was a laundry mat right on the property! We were very happy with our stay and plan to return next year.
“California Suites Hotel”
We had 2 rooms at this hotel, which were very close to Sea World, the Zoo and DisneyLand. The hotel reminded me of a little village, it was very nice to stay at. The staff were very, very friendly and the hotel and surrounding areas there were kept very clean. In addition, you could not access the hotel from the outside unless you had a key or entered through the lobby. And since we traveled with a 13 year old, we felt very safe letting go around from room to room or to the pool. For the price of this hotel, you couldn't do much better. Great place to stay!!!
