“Nice place”
Its a beautiful place. The location couldn't be nicer. its very convenient for walking around town, and along the beach. Lots of amenities nearby. Very good value for the money.
“Perfect getaway”
After 5 days in Vegas, this hotel was exactly what we needed to relax and unwind. The view was spectacular and the room we stayed in was completely peaceful, with no traffic noise or joining room noise, just the soft sounds lapping water from the nearby beach. The only downfall was the water pressure in the shower which was pretty dismal, leaving the relaxation just that little bit under perfect. The rooms were spacious and neat and tidy and the staff were friendly and helpful. Would definitely go back again.
“Great beachside location!”
I recently stayed 4 nights at this hotel. Upon my arrival, front desk staff was courteous, helpful and quick. My room was excellent and actually much larger than I was expecting. It was clean, the bathroom was a little dated and the tub probably could have been replaced, but it was also clean and usable. I loved the surrounding neighborhood and having the Bay to the back of the hotel and the beach a block away was awesome! Only downfall was not having a car and wanting to go see some of the sights (zoo, gaslamp dist, Petco, etc). All the main attractions are about a $40 cab ride from the hotel, but public transportation is nearby and cheap if you're willing to take the extra time to get there. I even had an issue with my bill after checking out and when I called the problem was fixed immediately! Overall, I loved my stay and would definitely go back and recommend to friends!
“Beautiful”
Absolutely beautiful place to stay. Close to everything.
“WONDERFUL!”
I would go back today if I could! It was absolutely wonderful! The rooms were nice, clean, and comfortable. The views were astronomical. I could see both the Pacific Ocean and the Mission Bay from my balcony. I could see the beautifully kept gardens with fish, birds, ducks, flowers, trees. I did not want to come back to NC. The hotel was convinient as we could walk to the ocean, to the bay, to the grocery store or any other shop located nearby.
“I was amazed!”
The Catamaran is not a hotel. It's a resort. And that's the feeling I got when I walked in.. There was a waterfall greeting me as I entered the lobby. Check-in was easy and painless. The hotel was very close to the parking lot. When we walked into our room, we were surprised at how spacious it was. Our kitchenette was perfect for what we needed. When I opened the drapes, we were amazed at the awesome view of Mission Bay, we could even see downtown, and the balcony was huge! I was immediately rewarded with a beejer for my choice!! You gotta stay here, there's a koi pond for pete's sake!
“Great beach location”
The lobby is very nice, with a waterfall and Koi fish. The hotel grounds are full of foliage with a pond that meanders through the grounds with lots of ducks and other birds, it's like staying on a wildlife refuge, in the middle of town! The location is great, you can walk across the street to mission beach which turns into pacific beach. There are tons of places to eat within walking distance, and the neighbothood felt very safe, we even walked back to our hotel every night very late at night and felt safe. My daughter and I are coffee drinkers and there is a Starbucks a 2 block walk from the hotel as well as a grocery store with good prices. The only negative thing was the price of the daily parking fee, but we can't wait to return!
“Very Nice!”
Liked the hotel a lot. It had a nice pool/hot tub area with a band playing vacation music next to the pool on some days. The beach outside the hotel was wonderful, nice restaurant/bar area. The room was nice and had everything we needed including a small kitchen. The lobby and grounds outside were beautiful. Lots of restaurants and shopping within walking distance. In the evening we were able to take the ferry boat with our kids for free to the other side of Mission Bay and we walked to Belmont Park. We'll definitely go back.
“Awesome Family Trip to San Diego”
This was our first visit to California (we are a family of 4 from the midwest - kids age 7 and 2). We were very happy with our visit to San Diego and with the hotel. The staff was friendly and helpful throughout our 7 day stay. The room was slightly smaller than I expected, but we were not cramped and did opt for the kitchenette also (which was great and saved us from having to eat every meal out). We had an excellent view from the balcony of our tower room, seeing much of the ocean on one side, a small part of the bay on the other, and the horizon of the local area in the middle. The room was clean and well-kept, though did show a few insignificant signs of age. There was plenty available to do right on the resort - we rented a FunCat for an hour jaunt on the bay and bicycles from onsite vendors. Maybe we could have found them cheaper elsewhere, but was definately worth the convenience. We also loved that we were close to everything...we hit the ballpark to watch the Padres, the Gaslamp area, the Zoo, and Seaworld with never more than a 20 minute car ride. The resort also offers several activities - many of which were free. Only two very minor complaints....we had to pay for parking (but that was probably clearly noted online) and that you cannot find a free cup of coffee anywhere unless you make it in your room.
“Would stay here again!”
I thought that other reviews of the Catamaran were on target. While I couldn't picture the Mission Beach area before we arrived, it is a busy place with lots of traffic, but once you passed through the doors of the hotel it was like you were on a tropical island. I would highly recommend getting a room in one of the 2 story buildings in the middle or back of the property. They were very quiet and the rooms in the front of the property back onto the busy road out front. Also, the sailboat rentals at the Catamaran were excellent. Everything well maintained and the people at the dock were helpful. Ate at the Eggery across the street for every breakfast based on another Expedia review and it was great. And don't miss the parrot shows at the hotel - very fun and interesting.
