“Del-icious!!!”
Always wonderful to visit...such a great place---I feel like we're in another world! Bathroom somewhat small with little area to put cosmetics and toiletries. But the porch and comfortable beds made up for it! Best employee by far---Andrew L. our friendly elevator guy...so nice and friendly and remembers everyone's name! A few wait/bar staff were somewhat cool...didn't feel they were "into" their jobs. But, housekeeping and shop staff were great! The Del is a jewel in a pristine setting!
“Love you, Del.”
Stay as long as you can and get the best view you can afford. It's awesome.
“Historic and Memorable”
We loved our room. Our balcony looked out over the garden area and we found that to be very pleasant. We opted not to pay extra to get an ocean view and never felt like we'd missed out on anything. The room was clean and modern, a bit small perhaps given the nightly cost but more than adequate for our needs and extremely comfortable. For us the history and ambiance of the hotel made the experience more memorable. It is expensive and they do seem to nickle and dime you on parking and resort charges but overall I was pleased with our stay.
“Loved Del Coronado”
Everything about this hotel is First Class. Staff is wonderful !
“THE BEST HOTEL YOU CAN FIND FOR THE FAMILY”
THE HOTEL IS GREAT , WE GOT A NEW ROOM THAT WAS VERY NICE WITH UNEVEN FLOOR THAT FILLS THAT YOU ARE IN AND OLD HOTEL WITH THE CONFORT OF A MODERN ONE. EVERYTHING WAS GREAT
“Spring Getaway”
The Hotel del Coronado was beautiful. The service and staff made my stay extremely pleasureable and relaxing. The location is perfect as it is situated in the small community of Coronado, but close enough to a great deal of restaurants & activities in San Diego. I would highly recommend this hotel to anyone. Enjoy!
“To me it is the hotel where dreams are made, and come true!”
Cream of the Crop, Tip of the Top, it's the Del Coronado, and there I stop...
“Great hotel but you get stung with the extras”
This is a great old hotel, built entirely in timber in Frontier days (1888). The hotel used to be independently owned and rated 5 stars (I've known it for nearly 40 years). Becoming a resort, it has gone a bit downmarket more recently (now 4 stars), popular with newlyweds and families. Sadly, the resort owners saw fit to add a couple of modern high rise annexes and are now building some individual pastiche houses for rent close to the hotel; these all rather spoil the setting. The hotel featured in the 1958 Marilyn Monroe/ Jack Lemon/ Tony Curtis comedy "Some Like It Hot". Was it worth a stay? Definitely "yes", it's quite an experience, but we were disappointed about how we were stung for extras on top of what, even at Expedia prices was quite an expensive room rate. Self parking was $20/day extra (there really is no other way to get to the hotel than by car); a $22/day resort service charge, which included Wi-Fi Internet access, access to the gym and pools, in room coffee (normally supplied free in the cheapest hotel/motel) and a local newspaper; we only used the in room coffee, which was run of the mill. You really don't expect all this from a hotel in this class; even before we got started we found ourselves out of pocket for a further $126 + tax for a 3 day stay; this left rather a bad taste. At checkin they tried to put us in one of the annexes, even though they clearly knew we had booked a Victorian room in the old hotel building - be sure stand your ground as we did!
“We'll be back”
Stayed in the Victorian Building which was nice and part of the reason for staying in an historic hotel. Room was decent size, but the bathroom was smaller than the closet. Restuarant food was mediocre but the views were spectacular. I felt like I was looking over the beaches in Maui, except the air was cooler. The island gives you a feeling of not being in San Diego, yet it's a short taxi/car ride into the San Diego attractions.
“First time in california. Would love to come back here!”
Upon arriving to the hotel, you can really see how beautiful it is. It's like they've managed to preserve it from when it first opened. The beach is so clean & beautiful to lay out in during the day. Also, the oceanfront restaurant at night is a must! Didn't realize how family oriented the hotel was though. Too many little kids running around for my liking but overall, a great time.
