“Tropical oasis”
The hotel has a very nice tropical ambiance. The location is somewhat isolated, with just other hotels around. For entertainment there is downtown San Diego about 10 minutes away. The room was very comfortable and clean. The pool looked well kept. The hotel provided bikes for our family for free giving us a chance to explore the neighborhood a bit.
“Definitely would stay again & recommend to others.”
Overall, we were very pleased with the hotel. The room was spotless and the location was great. The only complaint I had with the room was that the lighting was somewhat dim which made for reading in bed difficult for more than one person. The heated pool and hot tub were surrounded by lovely grounds which made for a relaxing atmosphere. In addition, the San Diego Harbor was a short walk across the street and there were paths for walking along the shore.
“An Amazing Expierence”
The experience was amazing with the city lights at night and walking along the bay was beutaful and relaxing
“A gem in San Diego”
I usually search for a hotel based on cost, not by rating - anything that's over a 4 is usually too expensive. Got a great deal on this place and it lived up to the high rating. Situated on Shelter Island - right next to a marina, this hotel/resort was amazing. Beautifully landscaped grounds, koi pond, huge pool, huge hot tub, great views. It lived up to it's tropical oasis reviews and we would not even bother looking for another place in San Diego. Everything is a short drive from the hotel. Although it was off season and there was no outdoor live music, the indoor Humphrey's lounge had live music - happy hour from 5 to 7 - half price food and drinks. Music started at 7 and was great - place was packed on a Monday! The next night we used our 20% off coupon on the restaurant that looked way too posh for us - prices were very reasonable for what you got and the food was spot on. The front desk gave us a coupon for a free appetizer at a Mexican restaurant down the street - definitely worth going to! Can't wait to go back to this place. And before I forget, everyone was friendly and helpful, plus the rooms were clean, comfortable, loaded with lights, and super quiet central heat/air conditioning.
“Humphrey's is a gem”
This is our second stay at Humphrey's in roughly seven months. We loved it the first time, and ditto for the second time. The rooms are nice and well-maintained. The staff is very friendly and helpful. Humphrey's has a nightly happy hour that is superb; half-priced drinks and snacks, and often some musical entertainment. Shelter Island, where Humphreys is located, is a quaint and calm oasis. Lots of walking opportunities near the water, good restaurants and interesting shops. Most places in San Diego one would want to visit (Sea World, the zoo, Balboa Park and La Jolla) are accessible by bus from Shelter Island with a $5 day pass. The bus stop is a five minute walk from Humphrey's. We will definitely return to Humphrey's and recommend it to everyone.
“Revisiting Honeymoon Holiday”
We spent 4 days and 5 nights here, from the time we arrived until the moment we left we were impressed with the quality of service and "going the extra mile" assistance we received. We actually were able to change rooms (just trying to get closer to the room we had when we honeymooned here many years ago) and were easily accomodated. Information about the area and recommendations about events and sights that we received (and indulged in) were terrific. It was a packed house for the holiday weekend and we enjoyed everything about the facility and its many amenities. Thank you so much Humphreys HMI!
“first impression”
my son and two grandchildren arrived ahead of us at 1:15am on the 7th of april. The gentleman at the desk refused to acknowlege him although they were a few feet apart. My son rang the desk bell several times and the gentleman finally got up and checked him in although with some very rude commets. Everyone else at the hotel were completly awsome, curtious and professional They helped make our first visit to San Diego a wonderful experience. A great place to bring the grand kids!
“Great, cozy Suite”
Great price for a suite that has everything: 45" plasma tv, video game console, air conditioning, refrigerator, and a microwave. It is very clean and modern. Staff was nice. It's close to the half moon bay with a great view of the San Diego skyline, not from our room, but some rooms do have a view. There are food places close by, I saw many fast food chains as well as a Chinese place. The room very large and sound proof. I would go back again.
“Great old school hotel”
Great location. Great views. This was our first time staying at the hotel. It's not the newest hotel, but it is very clean and comfortable.
“Charming Hotel Getaway on the Marina”
The hotel is located on the marina and we were pleasantly surprised at its rather secluded location in San Diego. The large palm trees, landscaping and interesting metal sculpture in the front of the hotel gave us a terrific first impression with a tropical feel. We stayed in a jr.suite/with a water view.. Our room had a view of sailboats on the water and faced a large stage which is used for concerts in the summer. The room was comfortable with a small living room and porch facing the water. The only set back was a toilet that kept running, The hotel quickly, within 10 minute sent someone to put in a new flapper and the problem was fixed within an hour or so. . When strolling to a lovely swimming pool and whirlpool tub, we passed 2 beautiful parrots that live in the trees of the hotel. The landscaping was very charming. Since we were visiting our 2 older sons in San Diego, we decided to go to some popular local restaurants rather than the very expensive excellent one at the hotel. The hotel is perfectly situated to take walks near the water, see local artists and eat at local seafood restaurants. The workout room although very small, had some free weights, 1 stair master, a bike and a somewhat broken eliptical cross trainer that faced the water, so it was still a very pleasant way to exersize. .We will definitely stay here on our next trip to San Diego.
