“Über hotel for the price”
Very chic hotel with upscale rooms and amenities. Recommend highly
“Palomar is a must stay!”
There were three of us on the trip and our rooms were fantastic. When we arrived they were very open to our request for adjoining rooms. The rooms themselves were lovely and and the beds were so comfortable. The staff were amazing and very helpful with our stay in San Diego and the hotel is in the centre of everything downtown. Fresh free coffee and tea in the lobby every morning and their breakfast is great. My friends and family agree we would stay here again for sure. I have traveled before and never have been moved to do a review before but I had to say something this time for those looking to stay somewhere in San Diego - this place was wonderful. My only regret is that I wish we went in the spring/summer, no one warns you how cold San Diego is. I'm sorry 15-17 degrees in San Diego is WAY colder than 15-17 degrees where I'm from :P
“Great downtown hotel”
Downtown San Diego in the heart of the gas lamp district. Lots of restaurants and nightlife within walking distance.
“AMAZING!”
The valet staff was on top of it. The check in staff were super friendly and helpful. I didn't have to ask for anything. The hotel is beautiful and the bar is chic and modern. Loved it!
“A force of nature”
What this hotel lacked in a view it made up for in inner beauty. The view towards the ocean was an 8 story parking garage. But inside every surface was fossil-loaded marble, embedded stone, fanciful art-wall treatments, tile, wood, all very harmonious. The room was comfortable (especially the king bed) and well appointed. For a standard room it was large. The staff were invariably friendly and helpful. The restaurant - The Salt Box - had an esoteric collection of appetizers. They make the BEST hamburger I have ever had ($16). Ate there 2 dinners and 2 brkfsts ad everything was delicious, and quite reasonable. The bar of the same name (saltbox) has a professional 'mixologist' and a wide range of classic and modern concoctions. Located a 20 minute walk to the coast, one block from the trolley, 5 minute walk to main transit centre, and $10 taxi to the airport, getting around couldn't be easier. The outdoor pool on the 4th floor was the temperature of a bath. But it is too shallow (4') and has no seating in the dressing room.
“Palmoar, san diego, Feb 2012”
Free wine (not horribly cheap either!) between 5 and 6pm was pleasant, particularly when accompanied with live music (music was only 2-3 times per week). Hotel car that drives you within a 3 mile radius for free (although I did tip the driver). Nice rooms.
“Centrally located luxury”
I stayed at this hotel on business. The staff were great and accommodated last minute requests brilliantly, and the location is fantastic - a couple of blocks from Starbucks and Macy's (essential when needing to recuperate form a long flight!), and around 15 minutes walk to the harbour. The pool was gorgeous and the food in the Saltbox Restaurant fabulous (I had three meals there!).
“Fantastic ambiance and staff!”
The hotel staff was extremely helpful. The concierge was a huge help at organizing multiple events for my friend and I. The hotel was extremely clean, had a very usable fitness room, and a great wine reception. The hotel is also located in a great location within the gas lamp district. Overall, a splendid experience. I would definitely recommend this hotel.
“Great Location”
On arrival, despite it being very late, we received a very helpful and cheery welcome by the bellboy and reception desk. They had acknowledged a previous email I had sent making various requests on room location, pillow type etc and that we were on the last few days of our honeymoon. On this basis we received an upgrade to a one bedroom penthouse flat, it was superb! On our first night be were a bit dubious about the hotels location but on exploring the local area the next day, the location couldnt have been better. Few minutes walk to the numerous restaurants of the Gaslamp Quarter and to the Horton shopping plaza. A 10-15 minute walk away bought you to the harbour front and convention centre. Hadnt realised just compact the main attractions in the city were!
“I just became a huge fan!”
Was a little nervous booking since we have never stayed at a Palomar before but it FAR exceeded any expectations. The hotel was BEAUTIFUL, the staff was absolutely top and we loved every single thing about our stay. Beautiful rooftop pool, heated to 80degrees so we could swim at night. Even a bartender and appy's available at poolside. I will DEFINATELY be returning!
