“Very nice, updated hotel. Centrally located to downtown.”
Would definitely stay again. Had a wonderful time. Next to the Horton shopping plaza and the Gas light district. One item to be aware of, the hotel charges an $8.55 'Guest Service Fee' when you check out. It covers, among other things, two bottles of water in your room. I don't know what else is covered. Ask when you check in. It may well be worth the fee.
“The Perfect Getaway”
The whole experience was wonderful. The staff was great. The location was right in the middle of walking distance to just about everything. The rooms were a little small but very clean and comfortable. Would stay there again in a second!
“Wonderful Hotel!”
I stayed for the weekend in mid January, 2009. The hotel was newly refurbished in a lovely modern style and very clean. My room was relatively small compared to other hotels, but it was very comfortable, cozy, and had more than enough room for me. Although there were people in rooms next to me, and I could occasionally hear them in their rooms and the hallway, overall my room was very quiet. There is no room service, but the restaurant downstairs in the lobby was very good and convenient. There's also a small refrigerator and microwave in your room which was very helpful if you wanted to eat in your room. I considered this one of the nicer stays I've had in San Diego, and I'll definitely stay here again!

“Nice boutique hotel”
I stayed at the Sofia Hotel for the weekend when I visited San Diego 2 weeks ago. I've done a lot of research before my trip, and I've read many hotel reviews before I finally booked the room at Sofia. The hotel is cute and very comfortable. I will go back there next time when I visit San Diego.
“VERY nice”
I was pleasantly surprised by the Sofia. The service was great and the room was lovely. The location to the convention center was also convenient...just enough of a walk to be pleasant.
“Great Location”
They did require a "large deposit" per night for your stay, however since we were staying 4 nights they did not do the standard amount. You get it back of course if you don't use it. Good food and happy hour at the bar/restuarant.

I enjoyed my stay at the Sophia Hotel.....just be careful not to get a room that is near the grayhound bus station.

Hotel is conveniently located approx. 4 blocks from the amtrak train station - 1 block from Horton Plaza and 5 blocks from 5th street (party central) in the Gaslamp. We stayed for the Street Scene and were able to walk everywhere we needed to go the entire weekend. The hotel is vintage so rooms are small - but for a quick weekend get away the location trumped the small rooms!
