Listed on the National Register of Historic Places, the US Grant-A Luxury Collection Hotel was built in 1910 by Ulysses S. Grant Jr. in honor of his father.

Rooms
Richly appointed guestrooms have pillowtop mattresses with plush down comforters, white-on-white bedding, and 300 thread count linens, framed by a custom, drip painting headboard. Original Native American art, custom-crafted furnishings, and crown molding are other distinctive features. The 270 guestrooms include plasma televisions with ESPN and HBO, cordless phones, in-room safes, executive desks, and standing mirrors. Microwave is available upon request. Marble-lined bathrooms have glass enclosed showers, stone basin sinks, and imported bath amenities.
Guests have the option of high-speed, wireless, or dial-up Internet access (surcharges). Twice daily housekeeping service is provided.

“Comfortable stay”
Overall, this is a luxury hotel where the design, taste, hospitality is great! Perfect location in downtown, close to everything. The staff are very friendly and considerate!

“Wonderful stay on a business and pleasure weekend”
From the moment we arrived we were greeted by the friendly, courteous and extremly professional staff of the US Grant. We attended a fund raising event and were in two of the ball rooms. It was a large group, and a team of extremely efficient wait staff insured that everyone's food was piping hot. We were a little concerned when we read because of the historice requirements that the hotel rooms at the lower levels were noisy. We did not find that to be the case. The beds and linens were fabulous and the rooms were emaculate. The location was walking distance to the harbor, Horton Plaza, and the gaslamp.
“Stay for the history..be blown away by the service”
Blown away by the service, the quality of my room, the quality of my room service meal. But, most of all, whoever is doing their service training is doing a great job. Every interaction with every person--from valet parking, to front desk, to room service..was flawless.

This a good hotel as you would expect from 5 star although registration desk is a bit slow and you have to pay for wifi on top of your bill. This suroprsung because cheaper hotels have it free! altough i have indicated good for all I think probably not quite ideal for families with young children

Stayed with kids at this very nice hotel, it was convienient, well located and the staff was very accomodating. The rooms were updated and nice, hotel is beautiful.
“Perfect Weekend Getaway”
My husband and I decided on a whim to take a weekend getaway to San Diego. The previous guests' reviews of the hotel swayed me into picking this particular hotel. And am I glad I listened to the rave reviews. The hotel is literally one block away from Fifth street, which is pretty much where all the great restaurants, bars and clubs are. We could walk to dinner every night and felt safe walking there. The hotel itself is absolutely beautiful The rooms are very nice, clean and comfortable. The hotel staff were amazingly friendly and helpful. I never heard the word no the entire time we stayed there. The Bell, Valet and Front Desk staff were definitely 5 star and we will definitely be staying in this hotel anytime we go to San Diego. If you are into wine, I'd recommend two wineries we visited while we were there. Both are not anywhere close to the Hotel, but both are well worth the journey. One is right on the way to the SD Wild Animal Park. The name is Orfila and they have a great patio overlooking the vineyard. The other is Bernardo. The ladies there were extremely friendly and helpful, and not pretentious for those of us who are not quite wine savy enough to call ourselves afficianado, but do enjoy a good glass of cabernet or merlot. We also reccomend going to The Grape, located on Fifth Street in the Gaslamp quarter. it has a great atmosphere and the bartenders are really helpful and friendly.
“Great historic hotel near the Gaslamp district”
We really enjoyed our stay at this hotel. The staff at the hotel was great and very friendly. They were helpful with giving us restaurant recommendations in the area and providing us with transit directions to get to various tourist sites (SeaWorld, the Zoo, Old Town, etc). We thought the fitness facilities were quite good, having a selection of weights as well as up to date cardio equipment (treadmill, cross-trainers). Little touches like the turndown service, complementary water and fresh fruit were nice. I would definitely recommend this hotel to others.
“Beautiful Hotel! Great Service!”
I would recommend the US Grant Hotel! The Hotel is Beautiful and the Service was Great! We did have a couple issues the first night, we had a beautiful room on the 7th floor, but the air conditioner and the street noise was a bit to loud. We did complain and the women at the front desk was very accomodating and we were given an upgraded room on the 11th floor. Which was also a beautiful room and had no noise issues with it. One other thing is we had a rental car and it is valet parking only at the hotel and it was $32.00 per day + tips to park there so keep that in mind if you have a car. It is real close to the airport, shopping and is right in the middle of the Gaslight district lots of restaurants and clubs. We would recommed it for sure!
