“Not fancy but very nice”

This is an old school hotel/motel, in a good sort of way. The owner/operator appears to live in the room/s behind the desk, and he seemed about ready to turn in for the night when we arrived at 10:00. However he was friendly, and after giving me a handwritten receipt and actual key (not a mag stripe card!), I found the room fairly recently remodeled and very clean. The hotel, and in fact the whole town was rolled up by that time and we had a peaceful night's sleep. The next morning, being 3 miles from Hearst Castle was a big plus as that was our destination for the day. Overall, no complaints and this is my stop the next time Thru on Hwy 1.

“Looking forward to going back and staying more than 1 night!”

Our room was fresh, clean and one of the best on our entire two week trip. Staff was friendly - we didn't have a remote control for the TV, call the office and the handyman was there within minutes to see what TV we had, within less the 30 minutes he reappared with a working remote. Beds were comfy, all services were in working order. We enjoyed the breakfast provied next door and used our voutures give us my Sands at the Sea. We are already talking of a return, when our time would not be as short.

“Great hotel for the cost”

The room was clean and large for a family of four. There are a few restaurants and shops close by. The Cavalier restaurant, where you are given breakfast, was nice and clean and the ladies very helpful to families with small children. The hotel is a great location for Hearst Castle. Only downside was check in, unprofessional front desk staff and that when requesting extra pillows, they were never received.

“San Simeon' best”

I travel to San Simeon / Cambria area a couple of times a year; the Sands by the Sea is one of the best places I’ve seen in the area. Clean, comfortable, great service and reasonable prices; will certainly be back.

“drive a little further and get the better deal!”

We had a good stay with exception of the people placed upstairs on our last night. Big empty building and they put the people over us. The dog howled. People stomped back and forth on the ceiling. The toilet flushing very noisy. We survived but would have appreciated the relocation of the upstairs guests. The eating establishment exactly next door was walkable and had really good food.

“Cheep and cheerful”

All the hotels seemed much of a muchness in San Simeon both online and when you were there so and as one of the cheaper ones we can't complain about it at all.

would definitely stay at this hotel again. close to the ocean, hearst castle, etc. pool was nice too:)

“Sands by the Sea”

Clean, fairly large and pleasant staff. Really awesome that it is both a small walk to the beach and as actual keys instead of cards for the room.

“San Simeon in July”

We came to San Simeon for a short vacation and to visit Hertz Castle. We love this area but have a tight budget. We enjoy bringing our dog with us, so it's nice to find a place that she can come. It was great being so close to the beach! Would have preferred downstairs, but it worked out fine! We like being able to "picnic" in our room so the fridge, microwave and coffee maker were perfect for us. The WIFI wasn't working, but when I asked about it the desk clerk told me that they were in the middle of changing it, but when we walked over to the restaurant and down to the beach we had access. Very happy with our trip... except the beds and pillows were not the best... bring your own pillow!!

“Needs a better ocean view”

There is a MOtel behind this one and it robs the view from the room. However, it is clean, quiet and fairly priced.
