“Oasis in the city!”
The people were extremely friendly, and the hotel and courtyard were truly relaxing and comfortable.
“Colonial Santo Domingo Accomodations”
If you are looking for an interesting and cozy place to stay in the heart of the the Colonial District of Santo Domingo this is a great place. It is not for a luxury traveler expecting english speaking staff. The staff is friendly and the rooms arranged around a small central courtyard in an historic building.
“Great place!”
Hotel Dona Elvira was a wonderful place to stay in the heart of Santo Domingo. Located in the colonial zone it is convenient to shopping, restaurants and the beach. The interior courtyard and pool make a delightful place to while away the afternoon. The service was great. I would heartily recommend it to anyone.
“Oasis of calm in Santo Domingo”
If you're not an all-inclusive resort fan, this is a great choice. It's a lovely, quiet, picturesque hotel located in the heart of old Santo Domingo. It's close to shopping, the old fort walls, museums, restaurants and the market. The smallest rooms are pretty small, but there is a pleasant courtyard with small pool, set up with tables and chairs, and adjoining the gracious lounge areas and breakfast room. There's also a nice roof deck with jacuzzi (though that wasn't operating at the time) The staff are great and very friendly - there's even a couple of cats and a dog on the premises (they don't go into the rooms). It's a restored historic building and the heavy stone walls keep it cool and pleasant.
“Caribbean charm and business convenience”
Humble exterior is concealing this charming colonial building, tastefully renovated and decorated in Caribbean stile. Museum-like appearance of the lobby is followed by a tranquil atmosphere of the internal yard with in-ground swimming pool and old tree providing a shade from mid-day sun. Rooms range from the small accommodations for traveler on a budget to the luxurious suite, with plenty of options in between. High-speed internet access at US$10/day is an unbeatable deal in Santo Domingo, excellent WiFi signal in the lobby with plenty of bandwidth to use on-line telephony; I was on Skype for hours without hiccups. Rooms have wired Ethernet and stuff is glad to loan you a cable. Internet connection may be interrupted for a few seconds when power switches from mains to invertor, but quickly comes back. Walking distance to museums and plenty of nice restaurants and bars, some quite trendy and pricy; ask for directions or just walk around and explore on your own. If you are in the mood to savor atmosphere of Colonial District, learn few words in idioma Espanol and maybe do some business in the New City, then you should stop by this B&B, I would most certainly come to stay here again!
“Santo Domingo's best hotel Historical district”
If small is beautifull this may be your place to stay in the "zona colonial" the Historical district of this city. You will be enchanted by this newly renovated 16th century mansion with high mahogany beams, thick walls (to protect from english pirates), century old mango tree (you can pick them yourself), spanish patio with swimming pool. All this with modern touch, WiFI, Skype, high speed, cable TV (all the US networks), AC, sertapedi beds. The staff speaks english, french and spanish, they give spanish classes (helps to bargain in the shops), they'll do anything (even bring you to the doctor if needed). I met a few american visiting profesors who stay there 10-15 days every other month. They keep coming back, work and leisure. Day time, visit the museums (I recommend Colombus ' palace (his son Diego built it), go the the nearest beach, at nights, open air restaurants, bars, discos and 5 biggest casinos less than 1 mile away. My place to stay, "mi casa es su casa"
“A Lovely Hotel Indeed”
Ideally located, well maintained, tastefully furnished, with a very relaxing and comfortable atmosphere.
“Charming and great location”
I recommend the Anoinette Room at this hotel. This quaint B&B is great for your photographs of the style buildings from 1550 and is also located within walking distance to great bars and dining choices as well as the other important monuments to view, such as first Church of Amercia. Staff was friendly to boot.
“Unique setting”
This was an adorable hotel in the heart of the Colonial District. We could walk anywhere we wanted to go. Our room was very small but it was fine since we were only there one night. The taxi drivers had never heard of the hotel since it is so small so make sure you know the address.
“Gorgeous hotel - but service could be better”
Stunning courtyard hotel, with clean rooms, and an incredibly refreshing pool to cool off after a hot morning's sight seeing in the Zona Colonial. Only grumbles were stingy breakfast, the careworn jacuzzi, a surly response when tea and coffee were asked for in the bedrooms (in fact were told we had to collect it ourselves!) and no English spoken (but Belgian owners might have been away) - i suspect a case of laurels resting from a hotel which had a formerly great reputation in the guidebooks
