“Historic great hotel in central location”
This hotel is in a great location, opposite the main park that has historic sites and along side a local people's restaurant street. It's also a little over a block from the main pedestrian shopping street which is where the night activity is - another plus. I loved the fact that it is an historic hotel (the tallest building in Shanghai when Nixon first visited) that is still a pleasant place to stay and be located. While Expedia calls this the Jin Jiang Park Hotel it is known locally just as the Park Hotel.
“Great Location at a Low Price”
I have stayed at Park Hotel many times over the past year and make it my regular stop. This is a good hotel in a really great location: It is a walk-up from the subway station It is on the Nanjing Road pedestrian mall It adjoins Huanghe Road cuisine street with dozens of restaurants There are several convenience stores, food marts, and foot massage shops within a short walk. The hotel was built in the 1920s, and presently has faded carpet, wallpaper, and curtains, but I it is overall clean. Bathing facilities are modern. This is a popular hotel for budget-minded business travelers and tourists. The People Square train station accesses lines 1, 2 and 8 you can get anywhere in the city from there quite easily. Eat on the cuisine street alongside the Hotel. There are noodle shops and hot pot shops between 12 and 28 RMB per meal, as well as several large restaurants with different specialties. There is a good dry-pan shop on the 2nd or 3rd floor of the building across the street from the hotel. Get a foot massage every day at any of the shops alongside the cuisine street (40 RMB, but they will up-sell you to 70 RMB with aromatic oils). Tip generously. Get a manicure in any of the small shops in the underground mall in the train station.
“Best location, staff speaks basic English”
It is located right by People's Square metro stop which connects to a few different subway lines, making it extremely convenient to get around. However, the staff's English abilities are not comparable to a five-star hotel so if you need a lot of help with planning your trip, it may not be the best place.
“Beautiful Art Deco hotel facing the People's Park. You get more than you pay.”
Very beautiful Art Deco hotel. Naturally it lacks some of the comforts of a modern hotel. Excellente location in front of the People's Park at the befinning of the Nanjing Road. Metro Station on the other side of the street. Rooms OK. Breakfast doesn't worth the price one pays.
“Great location”
We had a large and comfortable room overlooking People's Park for our 7 day stay. The only hiccup was the service in the restaurant on the 2nd floor. The food was very good, but we had the feeling they were not comfortable dealing with non-Chinese. There were very few people at dinner (we ate there 3 times). The breakfast buffet was not great for western tastes - we often went to the Radisson for breakfast, just down the street. We would recommend eating dinner out, e.g. Katherine's 5 (expensive but great) just across the street.
“Great Hotel, Great Location”
I stayed in Shanghai for 5 nights, and had a basic single room at the Park Hotel (double bed, desk, wardrobe, TV with about 50 channels, ensuite bathroom). It's a hotel steeped in history, and was the tallest building in the city when it opened in 1934. The hotel looks a bit shabby on the outside, but is plush inside, and well-run. Western and Chinese buffet breakfast is served on the first floor up to 10am, although this cost me extra, as it wasn't included in my basic room rate. There's a restaurant on one of the upper floors, and the hotel also includes a Health Centre and a Business Centre, where you can check your emails. Location is great - it overlooks People's Square (Renmin Park), is next to a metro station through which 3 lines pass, is two minutes walk from Nanjing Dong Lu (the main shopping street), and is on the corner of Huanghe Lu, a sidestreet with lots of Chinese restaurants where you can expect to pay around 50RMB for a full meal with drinks. Only drawback was the lack of double glazing: the building next door was being refurbished, and I was awoken at around 6am every day by workmen banging scaffolding poles around. Nevertheless, my stay there was enjoyable, and I would stay there again.
“Great location”
Art deco style hotel - was tallest building in Shanghai in 20's -Not any more! Very obliging staff, gave room requisites to my ill travelling companion. Reception gave us late check out-2pm for no extra charge. Beds very hard. Go to hotel cake shop round corner for yummy pastries. Taxi drivers know hotel as Park Hotel, Jing Jiang was confusing.Turn left out of hotel to go to Nanjing Rd east, right Nanjing Rd W, opposite People's Square. 580 Nanjing rd W great shopping centre. Great value and location. Would stay there again
“Great location, helpful staff”
This hotel couldn't get more central! Right across from People's Square, the metro, museums and heaps of shopping, restaurants, etc. It's also good value for the money. Finally, the staff were very helpful despite my inability to speak Mandarin.
“Shanghai”
Great location and genuine attempt to satisfy the customer, at the oldest hotel in Shanghai, with a rich history.
“cheap and cheerful”
The location is great, the rooms are nothing special but clean and more than adequate. The Expedia price we got was terrific. We had 2 complaints. The beds are like sleeping on wood - extremely hard. The fitness room is also very disappointing.
