Property Amenities
Within a leisurely stroll from Nevsky Prospect is the historic building of the Helvetia Hotel, with origins dating back to the early 19th century. The hotel’s interiors successfully combine St. Petersburg’s harmonious style with the elegance of European design. An inseparable part of the façade of impressive buildings along Marata Street, the Helvetia’s wrought-iron gates open onto a spacious, picturesque courtyard. The outside of the hotel, as viewed from the courtyard, gives the impression of a miniature medieval European town, with noble lines and a cheerful atmosphere of comfort and calm.
In late 2010, the Helvetia Hotel completed a major renovation project. Since Helvetia is housed in a nineteenth-century mansion protected as a national landmark, the reconstruction accurately preserved all the building’s historic architectural features. As a result, the hotel’s traditional elegance has been harmoniously enhanced by the latest technological solutions, and several new guest rooms have been added as well. Guests will be pleasantly surprised by the new furnishings with an accent on natural materials in beige and pearl-grey pastels.
Native Russian cordiality, coupled with Swiss traditions of cosiness and hospitality, individual attention to every guest and international service standards, are the distinguishing features of the Helvetia Hotel. Guests who stay in this bit of Switzerland right in the heart of St. Petersburg so often comment that they find the hotel and its personal service utterly charming. The Moscow Railway Station is just round the corner, and four nearby Metro stations give easy access to the city's three central underground lines.
Rooms
All 75 rooms and passageways have been redone and upgraded to please the Helvetia’s sophisticated guests. The water and heating systems have been modernized; super-efficient Daikin air conditioning, individually controlled and completely noiseless, has been installed in all rooms.
Classic style dominates room design, accented by select-quality fabrics and stuccowork. The atmosphere of Old Petersburg has been recreated, though sharp-eyed observers will note some smart European features.
Talking about quiet surroundings, the Helvetia pays special attention to preventing unnecessary noise in the guestrooms, most of which overlook the hotel’s tranquil, Swiss-village courtyard. Despite the proximity to the city’s main boulevard, peace and quiet reign supreme.
Air-conditioned guestrooms at the Helvetia Hotel St Petersburg offer minibars, coffee/tea makers, and direct-dial phones. Televisions come with satellite television channels and pay movies. Wireless Internet access (surcharge) is provided along with free local calls and complimentary newspapers. Bathrooms include handheld showers, bathrobes, slippers, and makeup/shaving mirrors. Other amenities include complimentary bottled water and in-room safes. A nightly turndown service and housekeeping are provided. Amenities available on request include wake-up calls. Cribs (infant beds) are also available.

“Nice hotel”
Saint Petersburg is one of the most beautiful cities in the world. Helvetia Hotel is a charm place, walking distance from Nevski Prospekt (the main avenue, but around 45 minutes walking from the Neva River and the "Hermitage Museum" -anyway most of the attractive sites in town are between the hotel and the river all the way Nevski P.). The rooms are big, but some of them without air condition, not a big problem for Russian weather. Breakfast just ok. Service very good. Yes, I will go back.
“Excellent Hotel - Service, Quality and Price”
Wonderful quality and service, even more so because of the great price! Great location just off the main street, so not as noisy, but close to the action and transportation. Has a good restaurant.
“Terrific Hotel”
This is an extremely friendly, well run hotel, in an ideal location for anyone visiting St Petersburg
“Great hotel!”
Great location, staff very friendly and helpful, breakfast great, room immaculate and quiet, and the hotel surprised my traveling compansion with a birthday cake on her birthday!
“Excellent Service & location”
The staff were superb - very helpful and willing to sort out taxis, transfers to the airport, trips etc. The hotel itself is a gem, hidden away just off the main street in St. Petersberg..genuinely a short walk to all the major attractions, and 2 minutes from the nearest metro station. Breakfast in the hotel's adjoining restaurant was excellent - salmon and blinis, croissants, eggs, sausage, pastries etc. Food served at lunch and dinner is highly recommended. Would definitely stay there again.
“St. Petersburg's Best Kept Secret”
The Helvetia is a great little place. The staff were friendly and welcoming (except for one!). The location is conveniently located - we discovered the public buses that run along Nevsky Prospect. (For about $1 you can get to the Hermitage. ) The breakfast buffet included in our room rate was fabulous. It rained the whole time we were there so never enjoyed the little outdoor courtyard, but it would be lovely in finer weather. Go for it!
“Choose this Excellent Hotel”
Helvetia is a great Hotel good location excellent facilities staff are couteous and have good English food is excellent at the attached Marius Pub which is a bistro/wine bar excellent menu presentation etc. Taxis are a rip off but bus service cheap and easy once you kno how !! We had a fabulous time
“Great experience”
So much information to take in when choosing a hotel that it still feels like pot luck. This was our 1st trip to Russia so have nothing to compare this trip with. Great city and great hotel. We found that eating at the hotel was easier than trawling the city for restaurants - and this is rare for us. Both the Marius and Clairet were fab, the latter being a posh version.
“A good, quiet hotel”
The hotel opens onto an inner courtyard and is very quiet. Our stay got off to a difficult start because the booked transport from the airport didn't materialise. However, it was easy to catch a taxi, and the very helpful and apologetic staff at the hotel made it up to us by upgrading our room. The concierge was able to advise us on sight-seeing and guided trips. She booked a guide and driver for two trips, as well as ballet tickets on a very busy night. The Marius Pub serves at the hotel bar and restaurant. It is open 24 hours and the quality and selection of the food is good. The own-brand beer is good too! We had a suite, and the room was in a good condition and generally comfortable, with a choice of pillows. It is about 40 minutes walk to the Hermitage, and 20 minutes to Gostiny Dvor department store. There is a metro station at the end of the street, and there are several good restaurants nearby.
“Good hotel for indepently family”
hotel cannot be 4 stars, only 3 stars maximum
