“Will come back again”
We stayed at the Wawona hotel for 2 nights, but we were very pleased with the service there. We booked our double bed-shared bath through Expedia for 2 adults, but we happened to have our 2 kids at the last minute and the staff at Wawona (Josh) was able to up grade our room from a double bed to a bigger room (king bed+ sofa bed for 4 people) without any extra charges (room #220). I thought shared bath was a bad idea, but actually they kept the shared bath room very clean the whole time that we were there. Besides, it was just a few steps from our room, so we did not have any problem with that. We also had complimentary breakfast and it was very decent for a "camping trip". The only thing is the location of the hotel is quite far from Yosemite Village (about 45 minutes). We will def. go back there next time.
“A memorable hotel in the middle of Yosemite Park”
It is rated 2 or 3 stars only because it doesn't look like a contemporary hotel with the amenites we are all used to - like a bathroom and shower in every room or king-size bed. It doesn't have a TV or minifridge. I don't think I saw AC either (although I doubt you'll ever need it there). All of this because there was no TV or AC or king-size beds in hotels in 1870-1918 when it was built. It is an absolute must to stay there when you visit Yosemite. It is so gracefully built and decorated, the views and portraits take you back in time, and history permeates every single aspect of this charming hotel. Resembling a mountain resort from the times long gone, the owners were right not to convert it into a full service hotel but kept it all very original. Its history is also closely linked to the history of the Sierra Nevada mountains, nearby Mariposa Grove and Yosemite park itself. If you have appreciation for history or just want to stay somewhere very different, this is the place for you.
“Wawona Bliss”
Built in the late 1800s, this hotel retains all of the charm from it's earliest days of operation. No telephones or televisions in the period-decorated rooms (and virtually no cell service throughout the entire Yosemite Valley) made for a wonderful weekend away from the noise and distractions of our daily lives. Evenings are highlighted by Mr. Bopp's piano by the fireside while sipping on warm cocoa or cocktails of your choice. The menu of the dining room has plenty to choose from, and the service and food is excellent. The hotel staff are well versed in the local area and have many great suggestions for daily excursions.
“A magical place”
The Wawona is a place where you are surrounded by beauty, history and music. Yes, it's an old Hotel, our room had the bathroom down the hall - but the architecture is so charming, and it's in Yosemite! So glad we got a chance to stay there. We swam in the very cool swimming tank, sat on the veranda and gazed at the beautiful trees, listened to Tom Bopp play the piano and tell stories that brought the history of the place to life. The breakfast that came with the room was excellent. Just one warning - if you're having dinner there - it's very pricey. We love the Wawona Hotel.
“Go Back in Time”
We had a delightful stay. The room was charming and had a covered porch to sit on. We chose to have a room with shared bathroom. Only thing to note there, is that you have to go outside on the porch to get to it. Just be sure to inquire when you book if you think that will be a problem. We arrived on a Friday night and enjoyed great free entertainment in the lounge. Food in the restaurant was outstanding. A unique experience to add to the thrill of seeing the Mariposa Grove and Yosemite.
“Great Experience at Wawona!”
Wawona Hotel is located just inside Yosemite National Park, only a few miles from Oakhurst, and is in a great location for exploring the park. All staff were very friendly and helpful. If you are looking for a luxurious hotel with all the modern amenities, this is not the place for you. At Wawona, you feel like you have stepped back 100 years in time, as the hotel has been well preserved in its original historic state. The rooms are furnished with basic period furniture, but clean and comfortable. There is no TV or phone, but free Wifi is available in a cozy lounge. Our room had a private bath (about half the rooms have private, and half a shared bathroom), which I would recommend if you are staying during the colder months. The grounds are beautiful and scenic, with a golf course on site. The rooms all have outdoor verandas with comfortable patio furniture. There are no elevators to second story rooms, but you can request help with luggage if needed. There is one dining room in the main building, completely surrounded by huge windows offering an excellent view of the area. Food is pricey but very good. A nice complimentary hot breakfast is served, complete with freshly squeezed orange juice. Yosemite Valley and Glacier Point Road are about a half hour drive away on a beautiful and scenic road. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the Wawona Hotel, and appreciated the restful change from modern day hustle and bustle.
“I love the Wawona. So many wonderful memories through the years.”
Yosemite is one of my favorite places on earth and a stay at the Wawona makes everything complete. Staying here is like stepping back in time but with modern conveniences. The staff couldn't be more friendly and helpful. If you want all the conveniences, this hotel is not for you but if you want to experience nature in lovely Victorian surroundings, this is the place. No TV and no phone = heaven.
“Great!”
I visited the 3 hotels in the Park. The Wawona is the most romantic. We booked a room with private bath. Rooms are cozy and clean, but small. If you are there to enjoy the nature and good romantic time with your partner, you forget about the room's size. No TV, no phone, no computer...GREAT: It was a real vacation for my boyfriend and I!!! The hotel and the rooms have a warm and romantic atmosphere! The staff is kind and helpful. Food is really good. We had breakfast (great buffet!) and dinner (the troute was fantastic). In the evening they play the piano by the big fireplace. Trails and great hikes are just outside the door. If we go back to Yosemite, we'll o back to the Wawona.
“Historic & Haunted???”
You could feel the past brush against you in the halls....Could it have been Teddy or Ansel? If the walls could talk....history and time travels back to the beginning of the century! The hotel is alive ....and the breakfast fit for kings!
“Great Trip to Yosemite”
Oue stay was great. The only items I would suggest is bottled water in the rooms and to fix the ice machine.
