Independent, Zhongzheng hotels

Zhongzheng is a busy district of central Taipei and is often where tourists can go to find many of the national government buildings of Taiwan. The district is named after the former president Chiang Kai-shek and boasts several important attractions. Despite its political importance, Zhongzheng has an assortment of culturally-significant sites such as parks, monuments, and museums.

The district’s most-visited landmark is the National Chiang Kai-shek Memorial Hall. This grand monument was erected in 1980 and has since welcomed millions of visitors. It is located on the eastern end of Memorial Hall Square. There is a library and a museum on the ground floor which tourists often visit. The upper level houses a large statue of Chiang Kai-shek and plays host to a guard mounting ceremony regularly.

Cultural enthusiasts will adore the National Museum of History. It has been welcoming visitors since 1955 as the first cultural venue built following the movement of the Republic of China’s government to Taiwan. Each year, the museum continues to grow its exhibits. However, permanent displays of artefacts date back to Neolithic periods. Plenty of contemporary art is also found inside the museum too.

Like most areas of Taipei, Zhongzheng has a range of restaurants. The high-end hotels provide great dining options, although there are many other establishments along the main roads and side-streets for visitors to sample. Everything from western restaurants and steak houses to traditional Chinese cuisine is available. This central district is not renowned for its night life, but there are some less expensive bars found near the Taipower Building MRT and Gongguan MRT Station.

The nearby Daan district has a high concentration of shopping malls just a short distance by train from Zhongzheng. However, there are plenty of shopping facilities in the district too. The modern Shin Kong Mitsukoshi Department Store and Kmall are both great places to enjoy retail shopping. Taipei Main Station is another popular place for clothing and accessories stores.
