The Krabi area has plenty of luxury hotels to choose from, though it is perhaps a little light on true five-star quality hotels. Most five star hotels in Krabi can be found at the water’s edge. While Ao Nang is Krabi’s most happening stretch, Klong Muang and near Railay is where you will find the highest quality hotels.
Krabi has risen to from a humble backpacker getaway towards the luxury end of the hotel spectrum. The introduction of the Krabi Airport and improvement of access roads has created an increase in tourist arrivals over the past 10 years or so.
Krabi used to be mostly cheap guesthouses for backpackers and adventure types who would make the trip to this area of southern Thailand. While some cheaper (in the off-season) guesthouses sand beach bungalows still exist, most of them have either been upgraded to make way for four and five star Krabi hotels.
While beautiful scenery remains, tourists now have the choice of staying in world-class accommodations for a fraction of the price in Singapore and other high-end locations. With the glitz and opulence of five star hotels in Krabi comes five-star service and extensive facilities for guests visiting this beautiful destination.
Most people stay in Ao Nang—the busiest place for soaking up the sun. It has choice accommodations, but you need to head to the idyllic beaches to the south to get true, five-star quality. The south-facing Rayavadee sits majestically amid landscaped gardens. You find it on the remote Phra Nang Beach with very few tourists. Both service and facilities are incredible here.
Back on the road-accessible mainland are the Nakamanda Resort at Klong Muang Beach and the Phulay Bay at Nong Thalay. These areas remain quiet compared to Ao Nang but are just a 20 or 30-minute drive away and closer to entertainment options.
