"I called to cancel and rebook the reservation on Tuesday when I was supposed to arrive because my flight was postponed for a day. The agent told me the hotel clerk could not waive the first-night charge and asked me to talk to the manager when I would arrive the following day. So I did after wasting quite a bit of time talking to the clerk who could not speak English. Finally, the manager showed up. I showed her the proof of flight postponement. Instead of waiving the first-day charge, she offered me a discount for the second and third nights to deal with the hotel directly bypassing hotels.com. I refused and told her I would not stay in that hotel unless she waive the first-night charge. Then she told me to stay, and she would take care of the charges for the first night. She said she would get back to me but she never did. I looked for her three times but she was nowhere to be found. When I checked out, the front desk still would not waive the first-night charges and wanted to charge me the discounted price for the second and their nights by passing hotels.com. I refused and told them I would deal with hotels.com myself, not them. So I left without paying them."
